ammunition by weapon or by ammo-type?

What do you prefer? Keeping the usual use of annunition by weapon type, or should I change it, so that weapons that have the same caliber use the same ammo. So if you have 9 mm rounds, you can use them for the Glock and both sub-machineguns. Or 12 gauge shells for both shotguns.

You're planning on using "ammo" objects, or to pull them into one same.. well, one same pool?
(I'd like to see being able to have a stack of explosive ammo, and a stack of regular ammo, and beng able to switch my type of ammo depending on the situation...)

Your idea is better. It is like in RL, mostly. Plus the PC wouldn't need to carry obscene amounts of ammo for every single gun.

@Claudia: I can only use the same "pool". Same as the two sniper rifles. If you find or buy ammo for the normal Remmington, you can also use it for the scoped one.
So no chance of leaving a stack of explosive ammo.
But you can use the ammo from all the Mac10s you find for your Glock or Uzi, and that for the Ithacas for the Spass.

So you want to pile ammo by type. And you can't make two ammo types for one gun. So why not make sawed-off full of phosphorus? OP? You don't plan on making guns more powerful like Zer0 did (please don't)?

No, I just want to give the Glock, Uzi, and Spass users the chance to save on ammo cost. And give all the Ithacas and Ingrams lying around some meaning.

I like the idea of more 'realistic' ammo pools of same caliber ammunition for multiple weapons, just keep in mind that this might cause an ammo starved situation if the pool isn't significantly expanded (i.e. I use 9mm for a few guns, and run out of it faster than I expect). As there is no weight or encumbrance limit for ammo, sharing ammo types between weapons might cause the 9mm pistol to be unfairly impaired as that ammo type is much more useful dedicated to the Uzi. I'd just be concerned that it might create a weird game balance situation.

This. ALL of this.

Also, though please don't break yourself on this one, would it be possible to give enemies varying weapons? Not saying one guy could spawn with 3 or 4 different ones, but that in a 4 man gang, they should not all use the same gun. The Tong all using the same makes some sense, and mortal police, but none of the others really make sense to be so uniform. It's as though the Weaver lives in Santa Monica.

What Malak said... The gangs could have soem distribution, like one or two with pistols, one or two with Ithacas, ome with Ingram... Something tactically realistic.
Weaver is not out of place in SM. With all that rope involved... lol!
As for Santa Monica, it is a definite Wyrmhole. Inviting a few furry boys might be good for that place...
