PostSubject: Playing more then one game   Playing more then one game EmptyWed Dec 30, 2009 12:38 am

The main problem with mods i have is any good mods out there do not work good with others Razz So i was wondering do any of you know how i can play 2 bloodlines games on the same PC ? That way I can have one version of the game with the Companion Mod and the other version with your mod. That way depending on my mood i can pick the version i want to play with ?

I know this is possible, I believe you need to install the game twice in 2 different locations, then install the mods to the appropriate location. Be careful of shortcut icons though as they may route you to the wrong game. I would suggest manually going into explorer and creating the shortcuts to desktop yourself.

If that works let us know in case others have the same question.

Hi,

The game usually doesn't allow multiple installations on the same computer. If the setup finds a registry-entry for the game it will only allow you to play or to uninstall. So you have to work arround that problem. Here's how you do it:

1 Install bloodlines and the first Mod (or combination of compatible Mods) you wnat to use. I'd suggest you don't create a shortcut to the desktop at this time.

2 Manually rename the bloodlines-folder (it's usually something like "Activision Vampire-bloodlines".)

3 Now start the Vampire setup program again and tell it to delete everything.

4 After that you have to start setup again and install the game and your second Mod. I strongly suggest you rename the folder for this versin, too. Else you destroy this installation even if you want to reinstall the other one or find a new Mod you want to test with a third installation of the game.

5 Now you can manually create all the Desktop symbols and Start-Menue entries you want to use.

I know it involves a lot of waiting for the game installer to do its work, but I know that you get two playable versions of the game this way.
You may get the same result if you just install the base game once and copy everything into another folder and then install the Mods, but I haven't tested that.

Thanks for the detailed explanation on how to do that, I was wondering myself exactly how to go about it. Though I knew it was possible I haven't actually done it before.

Just "Copy" the VTMB folder, create a new File and paste it on it, when you install multiples modes, send it to the new File where's the fresh copy, it worked for me in Half Life 2.

What i'm gonna type now I don't think this has something to do with VTMB but may also help who has similar problems like this, when Half Life 2 was released, it hadn't reached my country yet, so a friend ordered it by internet and I would pay him later, problem was, the game came on Russian lol (as most Valve releases), and was kinda "bugged", I was without net at the time, so no Steam support or anything, was quite simple to fix, for the bugs I made a copy of my original Half Life 2 folder and paste it with my HL EP 1 files, after replacing it all, the bugs were fixed. Now the next step in change the language problem, for those that cannot acess internet when having this problem, go to the Steam folder inside the game on the Resource folder, inside there will be "platform_country) >>there are for many countries " and also vgui_country. And if you look inside the game folder also, there will be the Resource part, but there will also be : closecaption_country(in DVD and txt format),gameui_country, gametitle(depending on game name)_country and valve_country... what you do now is, when it's in Russian, he will be AIMing the game language to the files valve_russian, gameui_russian,etc you got to only put a tricky on the system, these that are on russian you put an "_" on the beggining so will be: _valve_russian, then the english file that will be valve_english you rename to valve_russian and do same to the others I put up there, everything shall be fixed.

I had to put this here 'cause someone may have these problems even on VTMB that have these folders.

Using the copy from DirectToDrive, the only thing I had to do was create a new folder and direct the download to go there. That is what I did as beta-tester for CE 1.2, I directed the second copy to a folder labeled Beta and it downloaded fine. The I directed the beta version of CE 1.2 to the same folder and that work fine. Now the new download did take over the shortcut on the desktop, but that only meant I created a new short cut for the first version.

I was then able to play both versions without any trouble.
