 skill "trainers" in CE 1.6

PostSubject: skill "trainers" in CE 1.6   Sat Nov 03, 2012 5:07 pm

I am playing the CE edition for the first time, and in planning my build I have a question:

I know that skill books were removedand repalce with the library, what abour NPCs who grant skill increases? For example, Nines who gives +1 brawl and +1 melee at various poiints if you choose the right dialogue with him? Do these still work?

If they do, what about Becket? He's supposed to raise your scholarship from 3 to 4 and, later, can optionally raise it to 5, but of course there is no scholarship anymore. Was this skill boost simply removed, or does he target rhetoric instead?

Also, if these are still in the game, are the 'cut-offs' (the skill level beyond which you won't gain anything) still the same (I.E. must have brawling 1 or 2 and NInes can raise it as high as 3, but no higher)?

Well, basically everything is at it was, Shholarship (Rethorics) included. Some caps on skills were even rised or removed, although I don't remember which ones, honestly.

There is the email college, not the library instead of the books. The library is the new map, built by burgermeister, Entenschreck, and Wesp for the new version of the patch.

Nines stays as it always has been. Brawl is capped, while melee is not. For Romero, you can select money, the gun, or skill increase, no matter what level you have. Becket only gives 2 xp in the museum now, no more skill increase. And if I know right, later you can only get 2 more xp for asking about him, or if you are an expert on some skill, you can get a gain up to 2 or 3 on some related skill. Or help with disciplines if you are Gangrel. But that is unchanged in comparison to the plus patch. Bertram for the cd quest is uncapped.
New in CE is the earlier Nos haven quest from Bertram, where you also get 6xp worth of abilities like computer, investigation, sneaking... your choice of "typical" Nossie skills.

Thank you for the quick reply. I apologize about the Freudian slip; I was reading the 8.4 patch notes in another window at the time.

Speaking of 8.4... does anyone know where IO can download it from? The patch Scrolls website I usually used in the last (back when the unofficial patch only went up to 3 or something liek that Razz) lists it, but it says there is no download available when you try to click on it. Any other sites?

Wesps patches are Patches Scrolls exclusive. But when I tried yesterday, there was no problem. They seem to have problems with the gamefront mirror atm, but the first one on DLH net was working. But maybe that is only accessible from Europe, I don't know. Or perhaps your timing was just bad. Wesp has put out a patched version on Friday. Maybe you just tried when the first version was removed already, but the patched one not yet implemented. Try again. Use the "8.4 to 8.4.1 update" link.

There IS a new link that wasn't there before for the complete 8.4.1 patch (presumeably the fixed patch you mentioned).

However, I still see the following under download location:

No it's some sabbat epic quest. I'm waiting until UP get updated from "alpha version released way too early" to "workable version" so BG can do something interesting in it.

In the war between how people interpret the world of darkness, I have chosen my side ^^ this is why I never play UP. Tho you can read the PV threads about it I've explained mysel there :p

If Zer0 is polite enough and asks me, I might provide him a sneak and perk at how it looks but not at what it contains.
