PostSubject: Bloodlines comic   Sun Jan 31, 2010 6:50 pm

Well it's neither a movie nor a video game... But I had picked around for some content about Bloodlines, and found a very very interesting comic, still in progress, on DeviantArt.

What do you think ?

Here are the four comics :

Wow! These are really cool. I actually have a small collection of Bloodlines based Fan-Fiction, but I don't know of anyone who'd like to read them, lol. I mostly just write to amuse myself. If anyone here would like to check them out, shoot an e-mail my way, I'd be glad to unload some on you.

The writing is, uh ...

All the talk of Discipline made the following exchange spring to mind:

Nos: Ah hah, I see you have fired up Celerity 5. I have Potence 5, and my Gangrel friend has Fortitude 5.
Gangrel: Grrr!
Nos: And if that's not enough, our Ventrue companion has Dementation 5, which ca-
Ven: Domination.
Nos: What?
Ven: You said "Dementation."
Nos: Right. What's the difference? Both pretty much kill at level 5, right?
Ven: Well, I suppose as a practical matter there's not much difference. But that whole Malkavian thing ...
Nos: Yeah, they give me the creeps.
Gangrel: Not as creepy as Tremere.
Struass (off stage): I heard that!
Tor: You're one to talk about creepy, Nos.
Kine: Can I go now?
Tor: Just hang loose, hun, we'll hash this out soon enough.
Kine: But I just want ...
All: Shut up!
Kine: OK, ok ...
Nos: Here it comes, the typical Toreador shallowness. "Look at me, I'm so beautiful." Bleh!
Gangrel (to Kine): I'll tear your soul apart!
Nos: Please, that sounds like something a Brujah would say.
Nines (off stage): I heard that!
Ven (musing): I think Tzimisce are the creepiest.
Andrei (off stage): I heard that, Camarilla puppet! The sarcophagus must be destro-
Nos: Can it, Andrei.
Andrei (muttering, off stage): Miserable gutterspawn ...
Tor: Can we get on with this?
Nos: At this point, I don't remember what we were doing.
Kine: Really, if you let me go, I won't te-
Ven: Listen, mortal, one more word and I'll unleash Dementa-, Christ, now you've got me doing it, Domination 5 on you, the stuff of your blackest nightmares.
Nos: "Stuff of your blackest nightmares?" Sounds like "Dementation" to me.
Ven: I didn't mean it literally. I was just being descriptive.
Tor: Are we actually going to do something here?
Ven (to Kine): No one here but us chickens. There, now he won't remember a thing.
Nos: Except the chickens.
Gangrel: Can we go now?
Nos: Hey, I know, let's walk over to The Asylum and go up to the office and gossip about the other "sister." That's always fun.
Ven: It is.
Tor: I'm in.
Gangrel: Grrr!

Thanks, man. Gangrel is my favorite Clan, and I don't view them as mindless killing machines.

I'm assuming the nude woman, who I also assume is a Toreador, used Celerity. What level it was is up to debate, no doubt. I just found it odd that the Nosferatu responded with "God, I hate that Discipline," like she was a player in a table-top RPG commenting on another PC's, or NPC's, use of Celerity.

I wouldn't if I were playing in a table-top VtM game, not in character, anyway. It kind of breaks the fiction, like playing Dungeons & Dragons and saying "I'm going to cast Magic Missile." Sure, the spell is called Magic Missile, but reducing magical abilities to just their rulebook names and stats (I admit, I added the talk about levels in my parody) is pretty darn mood-breaking for me.

If I were the GM of a table-top VtM game, I would ask players to write a note to me what Disciplines they are going to use. I've done the same when I GM fantasy RPGs and a player wants his character to cast a spell. Everyone's different, though, and some people don't like to get bogged down in writing notes. But note-writing increases RP (in my opinion).

Thanks, Max. Basketball At the risk of breaking my arm by patting myself on the back, I do think it's kind of funny when I go back and re-read it. I can just hear Andrei's voice drifting in from off-stage to complain.

Thank you, guys.

Sorry for the late reply. I have been backing off CE for a bit, after playing it 5 times during beta testing.

I just read the first three parts of the comic. Pretty good. White Wolf will never let it be published, of course. Sad. (But then, that also goes for the book I was writing when WW anounced their plan to kill off the VtM line. Bastards. Another reason I hate Requiem, I admit.)

The Toreador is 7th Generation of course, since her childe would've been 8th Gen. if she hadn't been 'Interrupted'. (For the few who don't realize, your PC in Bloodlines is 8th Generation Kindred, since he/she has 15 blood points. Definitely not a thin-blood.)

I like how the artist is using the player skins from Bloodlines. The Malkavian in the skimpy cheerleader costume, the dreadlocked Gangrel, the blonde Ventrue, and the bald Nossie female. The Toreador has lighter hair than her game counterpart, but she looks smarter, too; so I'm not complaining. The male Brujah and male Tremere were with the Sheriff when they broke into the hotel room, so I guess they're on his little 'death squad'. That's all of the Camarilla clans. It's a nice little homage to the game.

I almost hate to read the fourth story, because I'm not sure if it's finished. I hate reading serial stories online... the wait is too much for my AD-- hey, look at the butterfly. Gotta go.

ROTFL. ADHD, my ass. Right.
And by the way, the story ends abruptly at page 14. Sorry.

Che protagonist in Bloodlines the game is 13th generation officially.

The 15 BP is for game balance - same as all the disciplines being combat effective... and most of the skills missing.

And XP around every corner of course.

I like my theory better. In the VtM PnP game, 8th generation is the lowest generation you can make your starting character (without making unholy deals with the storyteller, hehe). Stuff from the game, such as Andrei's comments in the Hallowbrook basement about how potent your blood smells, and how the "strength of your blood is all that has saved you from yourself"... that makes it much more likely that the PC is higher than 13th gen.

Where did you get that information?

It's the official stating on the game, can try and find an archive of it I guess.

Was also mentioned in one of the old interviews with people actually interested in the system asking the questions.

Huh. Justin Achilli (WW) and Leonard Boyarski (Troika) could issue a joint statement, and I still wouldn't believe it. No 13th generation vampire could gain power that quickly, or defeat all of the challenges in the game; not to mention resist LaCroix's Domination at the end.
