It is the phrase a hand wrote once on Balthazar's dining room wall, recently in Merkel's bedchamber.

Whole joke is, all three words have double meanings, respectively; "to count" and "to finish", "to weigh" and "to be wanting", "to divide" and "Persia". So Daniel informed the poor king Balthazar that he have been assessed by Adonai and found lacking, so his kingdom will be divided between Medes and Persians. Why the first word is repeated is unclear to me...

Oh, i found this gem:
http://jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/10678-mene-mene-tekel-upharsin

They even found cuneiform tablets retelling the event. much wow...

I just wonder how much the language had to change, or how much of it got lost, and misinterpretation of misinterpretation...

The ancient variety of Hebrew was as far from the spoken language as Latin from French by then...

That is thought worthy:

A story rather than a quote, but close enough.

"A king had 10 wild dogs. He used them to torture and kill any minister who misguided him. A minister once gave an opinion which was wrong and which the king didn’t like at all. So he ordered that the minister to be thrown to the dogs.

The minister said, "I served you loyally 10 years and you do this?" The king was unrelenting. Minister pleaded, "Please give me 10 days before you throw me to the dogs." The king agreed. In those 10 days the minister went to the keeper of the dogs and told him he wanted to serve the dogs for the next 10 days. The guard was baffled, but he agreed.

So the minister started feeding the dogs, caring for them, washing them, providing all sorts of comfort for them. So when the 10 days were up, the king ordered that the minister be thrown to the dogs as sentenced. When he was thrown in, everyone was amazed at what they saw! The dogs were wagging their tails playing with the condemned minister, licking his feet.

The king was baffled at what he saw. ”What happened to the dogs?" The minister then said; ”I served the dogs for only 10 days and they didn’t forget my service. I served you for 10 years and yet you forgot all at the first mistake!" The king realized his mistake ... and replaced the dogs with crocodiles."

And the saddest part is the minister was right... Poor dogs too, to get fired in an era of such an unemployment.
And that kiddies is why we don't deserve dogs.

"It is said that that the French are better lovers then they are fighters. This is true if you ask any goat, pig and any other farm animal."

I like how it has two insults in one.

I actually have a throbbing... Migrene, not what you thought.

As for jokes, I am half German. I have no idea which ones are funny, so I laugh at them all and pray for it to be appropriate.

Fuck appropriate.

Anyway: "In a joke about how different nations react to a terrorist thread they say: "The Czechs increased their alertness level from 'Oh look, somethings happening over there' to 'Let's have another one and go take a look.'"

So how do your countrymen react? drunken

Slovenians increased their alertness level from "it's happening in France" to "it's happening in Germany." Experts are worried the alertness level could eventually rise all the way to "it's happening in Austria".
