 Years later, I'm still catching new things

PostSubject: Years later, I'm still catching new things   Mon Feb 09, 2015 11:37 pm

I'm currently going through my umpteenth playthrough of bloodlines. After I saw Ming Xiao impersonating Nines at Grout's mansion, I spoke to Skelter. The first thing he said to me was "You look like you've seen a ghost". I replied "Maybe I did", and it clicked. Kuei-jin literally means "ghost person". That's some neat foreshadowing, especially for a non-malkavian.

If you talk to Heather for the first time (in front of the Ventrue Tower) with Presence, you get a line like "Yes I'm fabulous". Not confirmed but it's in the game dlg

Well, when I was fixing some stuff that Malkav asked me, I found this curious string... but I never tested it to make sure.

I mean, do you even walk around with presence on? Swag!

Interesting. Perhaps altering conversations with Presence was something they intended early on, but never panned out. IIRC Presence ends as soon as you enter a conversation.

Presence in dialog was done by Wesp for the plus patch. It works the same as dominate or denentation, and in the patch it is a substitute for these disciplines.
For my mod, I'm changing dialog presence so that it can give a bonus to persuasion, intimidation, and seduction.

Yeah, I'm familiar with it (and a fan! My CE toreador was much more fun as a result). I misunderstood what he said to mean that it was an inaccessible line of dialogue in the vanilla game that required the actual discipline to be active to see.

I don't know if Troika planned to do this or not, but all the Presence lines in the files were created by me Smile!

Would people want Presence to have an effect in dialogue? I do like the idea of....

Presence 1-2 = Gives +1 Bonus to Seduction, Persuasion, Intimidation
Presence 3-4 = Gives +2 Bonus to Seduction, Persuasion, Intimidation
Presence 5 = Gives +3 Bonus to Seduction Persuasion, Intimidation

Anyone else like this idea?

I do. But that's out of the question, beacuse I have already partly implementsd it in CE, and I'm working on a full implementation in undead LA. Would like to see it in TFN as well. Might even convince me to try an Ishtarri.

That sounds quite sweet actually. Presence will still keep its other effects right? You might want to look at them from balancing point of view, though.

For sure. It's one of the things I love most about the Camarilla Edition (that and the option to fight through the tutorial level without prompts, dialogue or cutscenes - really speeds up starting a new character). I'd make the persuasion bonus slightly less like Malkav did though, since Presence is more emotional than logical.

Oh I know right? The Ishtarri +1 Appearance is really nice for this. They are quite the puppet masters which makes sense considering their blood is so close to the Toreadors.

Yeah, I wouldn't touch Presence in any way except this one. You're right, balancing this would take a little thought too.

And leave the original table above for Seduction and Intimidation? This sounds reasonable considering how OP Persuasion already is.

If Malkav writes the python code for this new function, I'll begin implementing it and testing it out for 1.4. I'd love to see this change. After making Auspex more than just a combat discipline, but also a function for finding new items, I'd love to see Presence become more than just a combat discipline also. I love disciplines that play multiple roles.

An alternative could be to give the option to activate Presence which unlocks boosts all three social options since Presence can go in any direction. It would make the Discipline so much more desireable as you can pick any route you want wereas only one of the social options is cheaper to max out through the skill alone.

I'm not sure I'm understanding this correctly. Can you explain again?

We're talking about Presence boosting all 3 social options, but boosting Persuasion slightly less.
