Life and Death Taboos

Why is life after death, unlife/undeath, reviving people, reanimating corpses and such Taboo in our current world?

Not sure it is.

Desacrating the dead is forbidden because of the respect we owed them when they lived. So we owe it when they died. As I read on one graveyard's wall: "We were what you are, you will be what we are". Original in Latin, of course, but I am after 13 h at work, so...

So as you can see, it is because of strong influence of religion.

"If the living can be spoken ill of, then why not the dead?"

Back when humanity's greatest art was flinging shit at one another, people were scared that their dead relatives could come back to haunt them if spoken ill of / not buried accordingly.

I would argue. Respect for the dead is much older than any religion. It dates back to the proverbial cave.

You may Then call it belief in the supernatural, spirits and lightning throwing gods. Religion as it is was formed in the later ages of man, but there has always been fear of the unknown. He was moving and now he's not, what happened? Evil spirits? And then the cavemen ate him. Shit.

Not eating our dead makes us differ from animals. Maybe we became humans only when we stopped?

Nah. My view of humanity changed when I saw a bunch of hyenas bring down a little elephant. Make your own picture. And how do we differ. We still kill to survive. And we don't even seek other ways. I don't say it's wrong, I say we're still animals.

I dunno. I don't kill to syrviwe. I am a vegetarian. Killing in self defense is OK though.

Killing in self defense is considered humane by this one.

Well, if you see it like that, you have to go Startrek and create a food replicator. And even then you probably still kill innocent electrons or hydrogen atoms, or whatever they use as basis for creating the stuff.

Heard somewhere even plants, when cut, have some electro something that could be interpreted as "ow!" I don't believe that will ever apply to particles, dear late A-team watcher. And while being a fan of StarTrek, I thought we could all live off prana...

Well... Yes, plants do feel pain too. Living off prana is impossible though. We all need to eat something. Kill to live still applies. Does it make us animals? In my opinion, no. It is much bigger than that. It shows we are a part of Life.

And if you don't enjoy running down bunnies and eating them, there are wolves for that.
