PostSubject: Is it worth the effort?   Thu Mar 17, 2011 5:33 pm

Well, last weekend I uploaded the testpatch for the new music system, and the new blooddolls. And until now I got about no feedback at all. Not even something like "I'll look into it when I'm through with my current game", or "sorry I don't have much time right now..."
Nothing at all. So I ask myself, is it really worth the effort to continue working on CE? Or should I only make a version of the game that suits my interests, and keep it to myself?
Is there still any interest at all in CE?

I posted a reply saying that I will have time at the weekend...

BTW, I was looking for the download link and can't seem to find any. Am I missing something?

Short, clear and sound :

Yes, it is.

But I'm not the one working my ass off like you, so I cannot say "you have to continue", just for my own little egoist fun...

Funny thing happend to me. I tried to download, finally beaing by my home computer with fast internet (as for Polish standards...). All I got was HTTP error 500: internal server error. Have you taken the file down or what? Man, don't do that to us. I would like to see that no books, all collage option. Not to mention new music.

Well, Claudia, Feral, you were the only ones who responded to my original message. Zer0 of course, too. But I know he's more than busy with TFN.

For the link, I don't know what happened. It is there, but I can't access the page. Hope they didn't cut it off for no downloads at all. Yesterday, or the day before, I'm not sure, it was still available. Well, judging by my own tests, it's seems to be stable enough to be presented to a larger public. So I will upload it to ModDB tomorrow. At least if the Bertram quest finally works. I'll get there tonight.

Feral, all college is not yet implemented. What you get is the music, the new blooddolls, and the option to leave Ash behind in the sewers, and get him again after you dealt with the hunters. Plus an update to plus patch 7.3, including some of the fixes intended for 7.4.

I have rechecked the download link. It's up again. But better don't use it yet. The Bertram/Nos haven quest still doesn't work right, and I want to fix some other minor things. Then I'll upload a new version.

I got to your post right after finishing the download Laughing

OK, I'll wait for the newer version. Honestly, I'm quite shocked that only Claudia and me stepped forward for testing. One cause may be that as of late everyone is salivating over TFN's release... Bad time for testing anything else. Well, the mods offer different things, so most will play CE as well. My little dream is to see expanded collage and no books in TFN as well. So much more versatility. I always end up building my character in a way that allowes me to use all of them, ao it's always the same built. I can't seem to get myself to let xp get by. Well. I'm from Poznan (or Posen, as it used to be known ) We are all a little tight-fisted. Laughing

It's your decision, and I understand it perfectly well that you feel f..rustrated right now. I'd feel the same, and, honestly, I have no idea why there was so little response. I can only talk of myself, and I haven't played any computer game this month for more than 15 minutes, tops. I'm so frigging busy with my driver's licencse and school, I can't even get myself to do anything more than what's absolutely necessary at the PC (and on boards).
So, while I'd like to say I'd download the new CE version ASAP, I can't without lying. And I don't think my real-life problems are interesting enough to bug anyone here with them (although I think I've done now..). Again, I repeat, it's your decision, and I understand you completely, but if you feel your work is neither appreciated nor worth the effort, I can tell you that you're wrong with that assumption. Honestly... you wouldn't believe how much fun it is to play the game with the Camarilla Edition-feeling to it.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines: 10 €. Camarilla Edition: Unbezahlbar. Für alles andere... na, du weißt, wie's weitergeht. Wink

PostSubject: Re: Is it worth the effort?   Fri Mar 18, 2011 1:42 pm

I had to ask myself a long time ago if I was making TFN for myself, or was I making it for the fans, or both? And honestly when it comes down to it, I'm selfishly making it for me, because if I was making it for the fans I would've abandoned the project a long time ago. I'm going on 13 straight months of ONLY modding TFN, I haven't even loaded up any other video game since I started. That pretty much goes against every gaming rule I have.

There's been 100 times over the course of the past 13 months that I've thrown up my hands and said "Enough is enough, I'm done modding this stupid game, I don't care anymore!", but then I think of the fans and what it will be like to load up a finished TFN years from now and say WOW, I remember the hard work and dedication it took to make this and it will all be worth it. At some point I asked myself, if nobody downloaded and played TFN and I was the only one, let's pretend I never released it, would I still be working on it like I have and would I finish it. And honestly I can say yes I would, because in the end I'm building something that I would want to play, getting ideas from the community, but only accepting the ones I agree with.

So in the end, it's partially selfishly motivated, and partly for the fans. Would I be upset if nobody downloaded it? I would be more shocked than upset, but you know what, in the end that would be ok because I finally got my hands on "The ultimate Vampire video game" as far as I'm concerned.

So I guess what I'm saying is... you have to ask yourself "Why am I spending my time making this?" and "Who am I making this for?". If you're doing this for you, then keep going, if your doing this soley for the fans, then the lack of response would make me want to bail too.

I hope some of this bantering helped... lol Razz

To be honest while I quite enjoy cam edition and am looking forwards to the next release, I mostly thought the testing was for the new music system and since I really don't listen to music much I thought my opinion would be kind of invalid..

The idea for the blooddolls was of interest but it seemed to make the game somewhat easier in general, exit and reenter the building until you get lucky.. A great idea to make it more realistic but largely open for manipulation....

Not trying to be rude here, just stating my view..

Nezumi,

even if you don't want to try it, a statement like this is also helpful for me. I wanted to get the opinions of people, not only test results on the actual functioning of the game.

And I certainly don't feel offended if your opinion isn't mine. At least not if you say: I don't like it for this and that reason.

So let's talk about your concerns on the blooddolls.
In vanilla( including the UP, and CE up to 1.4), it's like this: You need a certain amount of seduction for every doll. You go in, talk to her, seduce her, drink. And then she's yours forever. If you're still hungry you go out, reenter, and there she is. Freshly filled up and all yours again.
If you botch up on the first try by selecting the wrong response line in the dialog, and she refuses you despite enough seduction, you just engage her in conversation again, and again, and again... if necessary. Without even having to leave the club.
But the main thing is, once you have seduced her, she's yours forever. That's kind of boring. And you know, if you're hungry, and your seduction is only 3. Ok then you don't go to the local club, but you grab a cab and go to Santa Monica where dinner is waiting.
So "cheating" is just as easy.

With the system I set up, you can seduce at least one doll per club even with 2 seduction, if you are patient. But she won't stay seduced. And if you don't have enough seduction, or botch up the dialog, she will refuse to talk to you until your next visit.

Perhaps I should use this topic for a more detailed description of the dolls.

In vanilla there are 4 doll dialogs, one for each location (Asylum, Confession, Asp Hole, Red Dragon)
Each starts with a randomly selected line (three choices) from the doll. Then there are different response lines which either lead to seduce feeding, and the doll being permanently seduced, or a more or less disgusting end of dialog. But even if she nearly vomited on your new blue suede shoes out of disgust, you can at once start a new dialog.
The main thing is, it's all with the same requirement, and when she is seduced, she stays that way. Once she is seduced, dialog is basically reduced to -Where have you been? -Now i'm here, give me your blood.

And this is the point where my changes set in.
First, she won't stay permanently seduced. So you have to try your luck every time.
Second, when the dialog ends, you can't talk to her again, untill your next visit to the club, independent of the result.
Third, it's not at the same seduction level for every starting line:
Doll 1:
line 1: both genders 2; line 2: male pc 4 / female 5; line 3: m6 / f7

Doll 2:
line 1: 3; line 2: 5/6; line 3: 7/8

Doll 3: (may be a blueblood, depending on location)
line 1: 4; line 2: 6/7; line 3: 8/9

Doll 4: (usually a blueblood)
line 1: 5; line 2: 7/8; line 3: 9/10

There are all 4 in the main clubs: Asylum, Confession, Asp Hole, and in the test version Dolls 2, 3, and 4 in the Empire Hotel. But this is not yet fixed. I can change it anytime. The slight advantage for male pcs is to balance the better seduction opportunities for females in other situations.

I hope, this makes clear what I intended to do. I have played with it in some tests, and use it in my current playthrough for testing. If nothing else, it makes the blooddolls a bit more interesting.

Hmm, so basically it does make it somewhat more of a luck of the draw as opposed to a 'beef up my seduction' style of game play? But then you still need an improved seduction for the better blood dolls as well right? I guess it makes sense though a part of me feels that a low level doll shouldn't be in the later areas but then since you can just map jump if you're desperate for the blood I guess it doesn't change much there.

It is nice to see the blue blood in asylum as you do have a few later quests in that map and a good blood doll to feed off is something worth making the effort to improve your seduction...

With that explanation I'd have to retract my previous comment on the easiness of the dolls in later areas, at least they only give you regular blood and you have to work for the good stuff.

Just for the record though, I've never even thought about changing to an earlier map to get free blood, I've always found it easier to stalk someone on the street rather then wait for all the loading times needed for map changes..>>

I usually feed off of pedestrians. They are plentiful, although sometimes it's tricky getting them into solitary situations where you can feed. To me, that's more of a challenge than just raising my Seduction feat; plus I can use the XP elsewhere.

Rarely do I go back to Santa Monica merely to feed on easy blood dolls. My loading time isn't very long, but you can usually find someone no matter what city map you're in.

Yes, myself, I'm more a hunter than a seducer, too. But I never liked the permanent seduction. It makes the dialog with the dolls extremely boring. Plus it makes me feel the xp for seduction are wasted, even more as when I have to convince her again on a later visit. If I didn't activate the console for modding and testing only, I might even be tempted to boost my seduction in the Red Dragon, get the doll, and then use vstats sell...
This is another advantage of modding the game, you know the handy console commands... like the famous "money" cheat: it gives you...
... not what you think lol!

Just in case you need a boost.

I hope you keep working on it, because it is great. I really like TFN, but I think the original clans and ultimately, original game will always be my personal favourite.
Thanks for your work, and congratulations on your accomplishments.

P.S. I know this post is late to the party, but I will be heard, dammit!

Yes you are heard. And I'm still doing something every now and then. But right now I don't put a lot of time or efford into modding, so don't expect anything new soon.
