Bloodpoints and Generation Empty
PostSubject: Bloodpoints and Generation   Bloodpoints and Generation EmptyFri Mar 18, 2011 6:27 am

Hi everybody,
I post this as a new topic to keep the discussion out of the rules descriptions.

A low generation vampire has more potent or concentrated blood. So even if his body can store only the same amount, this will translate as a larger bloodpool (more bloodpoints).
Same goes for using it. Let's say, a 13th gen. vampire needs 10cc of blood to hold one bloodpoint, and his body can use up this amount per turn. This will tanslate to one bloodpoint per turn = one action that needs blood.
A 6th generation perhaps only needs 2cc per bloodpoint. so with the same rate she would be able to use up to 5 bloodpoints (=5 actions) per turn.
Is that what you mean by higher generation blood being more "sluggish"?

P.S. Don't care for the numbers. I only made them up for the example.

That's okay, I didn't bother doing the math anyway.

By 'sluggish', I meant that the blood of higher generation Kindred does not respond to their will as quickly as lower generation Kindred. I never really thought of it as a function of volume; it's more a question of how quickly one can draw on its power.

In one turn, a 10th generation Kindred can expend blood to raise his STR by 1 point, Heal 1 point of bashing/lethal damage, or activate Celerity. To do all three, it would take him three turns (of course, the Celerity only lasts 1 turn anyway, but the STR increase will last longer). An 8th generation Kindred can do all three of those actions in the same turn, since he can use 3 blood points per turn. His blood responds to his will more readily. Of course, since an 8th gen. doesn't have three times the blood pool of a 10th gen., he can use up his reserves of blood much more quickly than the 10th gen Kindred. It's not always wise to burn through the blood like there's no tomorrow. However, if the 8th gen. is ambushed by two 10th gen. vampires, it's nice to be able to beef up quickly.

Bloodpoints and Generation Empty
PostSubject: Re: Bloodpoints and Generation   Bloodpoints and Generation EmptySat Mar 19, 2011 6:29 pm

Vitae is more than blood volume. It is the essence and energy within a blood. It is why animals taste lifeless and unpalateable and why blood from a corpse is barely nourishment. You need it hot, alive, vital. It is the difference between a gulp of warm, wet blood being like a succulent meal from draining rats akin to living on tic tacs for sustenance.

When feeding from someone the first points might come relatively easily without draining them to the point of death - but the more vitae you take the more blood you have to drink to amount to one point of vitae.

Does this mean, you need more blood to get one point of vitae when you're feeding form one victim?
Or do you need more blood per vitae if your bloodpool is nearly full, no matter if you get the blood from one or more persons?

That's the myth, anyway. It could be purely psychosomatic; i.e. they only think they need to feed from vampires, because they're addicted to vamp blood.

Of course, that's small consolation when you're the 13th generation vamp being drained by a methuselah. Very Happy

There's several elders who no longer find nourishment from mortals - some describe it as they simply don't feel as alive as mortals 'back in the day' and other such things, some just find vampires are easier to feed from - who has time for the hassle of blending in when you're a badass motherfucker who's five centuries old anyway? afro

When humans outnumber vampires 100,000 to 1, or even 25,000 to 1, humans will be easier to feed from. These elders just like the taste of vamp blood. If they're only a generation or two higher, you band together with some allies, set out a fledgling as bait, and take them out in an ambush.

If they're a methuselah... well, that city on another continent looks better all the time.

If you are a Brujah, you could also write a protest song... lol!

Or, better still, point a truckload of Sabbat to them. Shovelheads could be dumb enough not to think of atrrition rate.

It's all just Quintessence. Lower generation vampires can hold more of it in their pattern.

I have read about this theory in one of the Tremere books I think... Or was that on some website?

That's because Tremere were mages from the Hermes Order.
(Ars Magica stuff, again an Authorship stuff, which explains why there are no Tremere in Kindred the Embraced nor in the new Requiem game)

I read both Dark Ages: House of Tremere and Mage The Ascension: Blood Treachery...
Good stuff. But their hubris is sometimes terryfing. Now I read Clanbook Salubri. How the Mages got fooled...
