| I have downloaded TFN BETA. Upon downloading, Norton Internet Security analized the file and removed it, claiming it is untrusthworty, though not turning any specific viruses or malware in the result. Downloading again, for another 4 hours Will try to switch off the insight scan. Zer0, could you please verify the file is safe? | |

| OK, despite file insight module switched off I got this:
Updated: May 13, 2010 8:18:54 AM Type: Other Risk Impact: High Systems Affected: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000 BehaviorWS.Reputation.1 is a detection for files that have a low reputation score based on analyzing data from Symantec’s community of users and therefore are likely to be security risks. Detections of this type are based on Symantec’s reputation-based security technology. Because this detection is based on a reputation score, it does not represent a specific class of threat like adware or spyware, but instead applies to all threat categories.
The reputation-based system uses "the wisdom of crowds" (Symantec’s tens of millions of end users) connected to cloud-based intelligence to compute a reputation score for an application, and in the process identify malicious software in an entirely new way beyond traditional signatures and behavior-based detection techniques.Antivirus Protection DatesInitial Rapid Release version March 27, 2009 Latest Rapid Release version April 20, 2010 revision 025 Initial Daily Certified version March 27, 2009 revision 005 Latest Daily Certified version April 20, 2010 revision 024 Initial Weekly Certified release date April 1, 2009 Click here for a more detailed description of Rapid Release and Daily Certified virus definitions.
Which got me to this: Updated: May 13, 2010 8:18:54 AM Type: Other Risk Impact: High Systems Affected: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000 White-listing Software developers who want to accelerate the reputation building process for their new software applications should submit new applications to the Symantec white-listing program. Details of that program can be found here.
Disputes If you believe that a program has been incorrectly classified by the Symantec reputation-based security system, then you may submit a dispute using this Web form.
Obviously, file got shredded. Zer0, all I could do is to uninstal Norton, which is not really an option because I'm not on my computer. Worse still it is the only one I could use to download. I could think up only one solution to prevent TFN beaing blocked by Norton for anyone using it. Here is a link for a Whitelist form: https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/insight/
Could you please send a form to those geniuses at Symantec to clarify TFN is not some sort of fraud/porn/spam or whatever their brilliant software thinks?

| Can't you turn off this reputation based check in the settings of Norton? Or deactivate the fiorewall, virus checker, or whatever feature it is for this single download? - | |

| Trying it now. Norton internet Security goes in modules. Sometimes turning off one doesn't work. But I think I identified source of the problem. Hopefuly. | |

| I'm downloading and installing Symantec 10.1 right now and running it on my machine. As soon as I installed it I got 6 instances of that W32.Pinfi infection so I'm going to use this machine I'm on here to run a fullscan on my file server to make sure the virus didn't spread to that, which is where my core TFN files are stored. After that I'm going to reimage this machine to ensure 100% death to this W32.Pinfi bug, then repackage TFN Beta and re-upload it. I'm so glad we figured this out before releasing it to the public. | |

| I managed to download it at home and not at work, but I never got a virus problem (I'm rescanning the computer right now), and it's working just fine :/ | |

| My scans showed nothing wrong, twice, on any computer (my fiancé's desktop and my laptop).
Don't worry, at least it was noticed right now and not in the middle of July !

| I'm making good progress I think. I got my test machine totally clean on both drives so we're good there. I'm in the process of cleaning the server drive with my core TFN files on it, making progress there too. If/When I get that clean, I'll be able to reimage my modding machine and we should be good. I just don't know how much I'm going to lose yet.
*Hugs Claudia back* | |

Much like Bishop Vick and the plaguebearers, lol. No actually I'm good now, I've gotten rid of most of it and my systems are stable once more. I managed to find an un-molested copy of TFN right before I packaged it that hadn't been touched by the virus, and it's up to date so we're ready to rock n roll. Once I finish up what I'm doing I can begin fixing your reported bugs.

| Ok, everything is clean on my end and I removed the infected TFN Beta 1.0.exe file from File Factory. No more spreading of disease!! Sorry again about that. | |

| I'm guessing this is what kept making Bloodlines minimise during play? | |

| It's hard to say, but I know that whenever I tried to start Bloodlines for the past month, half the time it would just crash back to desktop and I couldn't figure out why. Now I know...
Well I'm happy to report that all 3 machine are coming back clean now at my apartment, and I just cleaned out the rest of the infected files on my thumb drive. So Zer0 is 100% free of disease (just to let the ladies know). HAHA

| Couldn't find the link for the clean version? Think I'm just being blind and someone buggered off with the white cane. Am going to have to reinstall it all, the game has become unplayable minimising constantly, have certainly not had this issue with the game before and it only started today after finding the virus - it's been removed but the problem still occuring with all plausible causes disabled. (Possible fix is if someone could just email me a functioning vampire.dll for the mod which is a fix for the issue in the vanilla game) | |

OK, after what has transpired I got to admit they were right. And go through a traditional Polish penalty for tarnishing another's reputation unjustly. *goes under the table and barks loudly*

| @8People,
When I had the problem, a nice temporary fix was to copy the vampire.exe file from the CD over to \vampire - bloodlines\ folder and I could generally get in. But yes, the ultimate fix would be to uninstall Bloodlines/TFN completely and reinstall.
I will package up another "Clean" Beta version tonight and upload it. I'll be at work for another 6 hours but I'll get started right when I get home. It will probably take 3 hours to upload but I will send you the link as soon as it's done.
I need to fix the Akeem bug tonight too.

That's great that it worked, only bad thing is it sounds like your computer is infected with Pinfi. Do this, open up the registry editor (regedit.exe, you can run it from the run box) and go to... HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer ...and look to see if you see a key called "PINF". If you do have that key, delete it. That's the key that Pinfi creates to load the virus into memory upon boot up. You're best bet is to google "Pinfi Removal" and follow the guides, or reinstall Windows, either way.
