Can't install CE 1.2 on 64-bit Windows

I get the following error message when attempting to install CE 1.2:

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see wether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.




This is a dual-boot PC with Vista sp1 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit and both give the same error message. I was able to install CE 1.1 on this same PC without any problems.

This error pops up immediately after running the patch-- it doesn't even start unzipping/copying files.

Any ideas?

Where did you download the file from? I just found out Patches-Scrolls repackaged .zip file is corrupt. If you downloaded it from Patches-Scrolls redownload it from Filesend or ModDB.

Initially, I downloaded the ZIP from patch-scrolls but got a CRC error when attempting to unzip so then I downloaded the EXE from filesend.

As I indicated in the first post, I had absolutely no problems installing 1.1 on Win7 64-bit. Is 1.2's EXE unzip program different than 1.1?

Actually no, I packaged CE 1.2 the exact same way with the exact same program as CE 1.1, I even used the same icons and same wallpaper.

A little time has gone by, has it started working yet?

I deleted 1.2 out of frustration so I'll need to download it again. Did you fix the patches-scroll file? Filesend isn't working today.

I can't fix the Patches-Scrolls download, it's up to the site admins to do that. I did notify them and they said they fixed it, so I tested it and it was still broken.

I've never seen Filesend go down before, give them a little time I'm sure it will come back up, or you can d/l it from ModDB.

I downloaded it from filesend and it installed perfectly.

BTW. I ran the bad EXE on an old win2000 pc and got the dos box like loki in the other thread. The error was "not enough memory" or something similar. I don't remember if the bad EXE was from filesend or modb. Maybe the file on modb is bad. Maybe I'll download it again from them to confirm.

PS: One teeny-tiny bug I noticed with 1.1 (1.2 seems to have it too): On the Elizabeth Dane, after you talk to the crooked cop and start sneaking toward the gangway I heard a police siren in the background. In a previous run through (as a Tremere) I heard an owl hooting. All the other ambient ship sounds were there.

Owls? Can't remember any owls, but as a Malk you are accustomed to her any kind of strange voices, so nothing special there

Never mind. I just did an uninstall/delete/clean install and played as a gangrel and could not reproduce the ambient audio anomaly on the ED. I even reloaded/replayed the mission a few times but everything seems okay. One more reason to do a clean install.
