Hey claudia if I dowload Diablo 1 is it an mmo or can i just play it alone? I like what diablo seems to be about but i dont want to have to pay a subscription to play it and I dont want to rely on other ppl to have to move forward with quests and stuff.

Diablo 1 is largely a single-player game and doesn't need a subscription to play, it's one of the good old types of games were you install it and play until you grow bored of it.

Don't worry about the game being unplayable without other people neither, I'd even say the game is made specifically with single-player in mind.

Same goes for Diablo 2, and based on the beta I'd say Diablo 3 will go by the same style, except for the need of a battle.net account even to play alone.

No, it does not work. World of Warcraft uses Battle.net, and has been pirated via private servers for years. Every single game ever made, despite any and all anti-piracy measures, has been pirated -- hell, most of them days before the official release date, like Skyrim.

Well, that is true.
However private servers do have the downside of being buggy.

Played here for months before I lost all interest in WoW; never any bugs or glitches. Only drawback was that every once in a while I'd have to wait in queue for different Realms because there were too many people logged in (usually over 10,000 in peak hours).

lolz I've played Diablo II LoD for some time today. Coincidence.

As a player of World of Warcraft for the past 6 years (blizzard servers) I can tell you that there are DOZENS of things that are not working or even implemented in the private ones. I have friends who play on the one you gave and I've seen plenty of it. Believe there are things you do not even realize you are missing. Not to mention that you haven't reached even like 10% of the latest expansion (in scripting and stuff) and we are already waiting for the next one. Private servers will NEVER be even close to what the original game is like. Thousands of bugs, missing stuff, lag, glitches and poor GM service. Don't fool yourself mate. You and I are not playing the same game.
There has never been a 100% blizzlike private server and there will never be.

Well, private servers do save A LOT of your moneys though =)
Imho it's kinda stupid to pay 100500 times for just another "level your skill tree with friends". =)

Well, yeah. Blizz GM's are doing great. The things they can't solve are not in their power, not that they are unwilling to help. In private servers, however, nobody cares about your character or development. If they decide to erase all characters, they just do. Not to mention that most of the time GM's are willing to give items for real life money, which kills any competitive play.
Also, words like class/race balance do not even exist in private servers.

Whether one should pay a monthly subscription or not is a matter of personal choice. MMOs need maintenance and it's not a coincidence that WoW is number 1 (active subscribers) and cannot even be challenged by the rest of the MMOs out there.

If it's banned then it doesn't matter how old you are it'll come up as unavailable unless you get it from another country.
