Everybody Loves Gargoyle

HI! I don't know if this is a bug from CE or Wesp's patch, but I can't get my PC to rat on Strauss to Isaac Abrams. I'm playing a Toreador (for the first time) and am going for the Anarch ending (also for the first time, because they annoy the living crud out of me). Every time I choose the "I've learned something about the gargoyle" option I only get the "No, never mind."

I've tried the following:
--Talked to Strauss - Chose the "Your secret's safe with me" option - Talked to Isaac after recruiting the gargoyle --> got nothing
--Talked to Strauss - Chose the "Your secret's safe with me" option - Talked to Isaac before recruiting the gargoyle --> got nothing
--Talked to Strauss - Had the "You're playing a dangerous game" reply - Talked to Isaac after recruiting the gargoyle --> got nothing
--Talked to Strauss - Had the "You're playing a dangerous game" reply - Talked to Isaac before recruiting the gargoyle --> got nothing

Anything else I can try? Preferably something that doesn't imply starting from scratch. I know that the Tremere can't rat once they get their haven, but I'm a (yuck) Toreador, so it shouldn't be a problem, even though I have my new swanky pad (in the building with a guard and no tennants... I mean, what the hell is he guarding?? ).

Hm, that 's funny.

I did the beta testing with a Malk and I had no problem getting thrown out of the chantry.
Did it the usual way:
- got quest from Isaak
- talked to Strauss, got his secret, told him it was safe with me
- recruited the gargoyle for Isaak
- returned to Isaak and told him about my success, nothing more yet.
- went to Strauss for the reward
- back to Isaak, could tell him about the gargoyle, no problem.

Can't tell you more from inside the game right now, because I've just installed the final version and not yet played a game with it.
Did you piss off Isaak before? Something like refusing to do one of the snuff-tape quests.
Anyway it's not really necessary to betray Strauss to get to the Anarch-ending. It's Nines who leads the Anarchs Downtown after all, not Isaak.
I remember I had that problem in one of my games, too, but I can't remember what I did or if there are other requirements to meet.

Edit: I've just looked into the files; there seems to be a problem. Talk to the regent and than go back to Isaak (the way I described above). That should solve it.

Did you read the Thaumaturgical Creatures book in the chantry's library? I think you need to read it in order for your char to link the Tremere to the gargoyle. Just as you have to learn about ghouls from Knox before you can "save" Heather.

GRRR! This time I got it to work.

--chose "I'll keep your secret"
--recruited Raymond
--reported the recruiting to Isaac
--immediately after that ended the conversation
--started the conversation again (on a whim) and got the extra option

Didn't feel like reloading just so I could get some extra hundred bucks from Strauss.

Good to know it worked that way. So the problem isn't what I thought it might be. The game only needed the "success" flag from the quest-log to give you the dialogue-option.

It's funny you mentioned this because after I recruited the Gargoyle and talked to Strauss, I couldn't rat on him to Isaac either.

I will try talking to Strauss one more time, then rat on him to Isaac.

Yeah, I chose not to talk to Strauss again because the quest got closed and removed from the list. And I remembered how a lot of times this quest would just stay open and how much that bugged me. I like having a clear quest list much more than having that 500$, or whatever the ammount.

As far as I know, the trick is first to tell Isaak, you solved the gargoyle-problem for him, then go to Strauss, and after that return to Isaak and rat on Strauss. I know it's a lot of unnecessary taxi travel, but you can combine it with a visit at confession for money or to visit your haven and check the email. And at this point of the game, Ithink Mercurio is the only reliable source of ammo for the Spass15, so a quick trip to Santa Monica on the way is a good idea; especially if you do the Hollywood sidequests after the first part of the warrens and get to the deeper parts only after getting a bit of additional xp in Hollywood itself.
