| Ok so I've been spending hours upon hours fixing all of the cops and pedestrians for all 4 maps, AND fixing the sewer music for Hollywood and Chinatown, AND police alert triggers for the Samedi, AND other little things. Well I finally finished Hollywood's main hub which took hours only to forget to back it up. I caught a virus so I reimaged my computer and low and behold I lost the entire map so I have to redo it. THHHHEEEENNN I finished up Chinatown's main hub tonight, it was perfect. Then I couldn't figure out why the node graph files weren't being auto generated so I restarted my computer. I came back and for some reason the entire map reverted itself back to TFN 1.1 losing everything once again. It's like it didn't save anything!!! I'm so frustrated I could scream. I've completely finished 2 main hubs now and lost them both. Thank goodness I backed up all of my work for Santa Monica and Downtown. I hate modding!!! | |

| ^ | That's americans for you. Think a gun will solve any problem Don't know what happened there, but I do know how you feel, bro. I've also lost my share of files due to not making backups, forgetting to save in time, and other stupid things over the time. - | |

Actually, you'd be surprised at how many problems can be solved by firearms. High explosives, too. “Anyone who clings to the historically untrue -- and thoroughly immoral -- doctrine that violence never solves anything I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler would referee. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor; and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and their freedoms.” -- Colonel DuBois, Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein (Good God don't watch the movie... read the book.)

| Yep, and every problem "solved" with a war has sowed the seeds for the next war... I'm waiting for the next big one, which will probably solve all problems until the next "intelligent" species has evolved... Can't be too far away now. I agree that expecting people to act rationally is whishful thinking. But calling a violent action, that in itself is the root for the next one, a solution is just as delusional. - | |

I agree that expecting people to act rationally is whishful thinking. But calling a violent action, that in itself is the root for the next one, a solution is just as delusional. I've read this opinion before, but I don't think one war 'sows the seeds' for another... I think the seeds are always there in some people's heads, because some will always want power over others, and are willing to kill for it. One side being peaceful and defenseless does not prevent a fight. I'd rather be prepared for trouble, and never need to act, than be unprepared when some unbalanced/immoral person tries to harm me or those I care about. I'm pretty sure that if I found myself the target of an 'ethnic cleansing', or a holy war, that I would want a firearm or two. But that's just me.

Well, face, what else? And I will second PGM's opinion. As the Romans put it: Si vis pacem, para bellum. For those who are poor with Latin: If you want to live in peace, prepare for war. True. No country prepared for war was ever conquered with ease. And the difficulty of taking another's possesions is a greatly underestimated deterrent to those who would try. Simple mental experiment: who would you sooner rob: an old lady or a known gangster? Why?

I recognized the quote, yay! It is a funny movie, if you look at it that way. The movie was done by the same guy who did Robocop, with lots of campy humor. The book was serious sci-fi, with weird, alien concepts that are not taught in schools today, such as honor and duty. Having read the book long ago, I cringed when I saw the movie. I suppose, taken by itself, the quote I gave seems to support unwarranted violence, which is not the intent. It is a response (in the book I mentioned) to a young girl in a classroom who says, "My mom says violence never solves anything." Colonel DuBois goes on to state that a desire for peace, without any ability to defend yourself, is simply waiting for disaster. If anyone still disagrees with my statements, just note that I'm from the state of Texas (and New Mexico before that), and therefore only a few generations removed from gunfights in the streets at high noon. This should explain my viewpoint.

Anyway, my opinion on the violence discussion: I think that violence should always be an undesirable solution that one should seek to avoid. However, you can't always avoid it and sometimes it may even happen that all other available solutions are even worse. Which would technically make it the best solution, although that still doesn't make it a good solution. So ideally one should always be prepared to use violence and never actually have to use it.

And I agree, just to be clear. I merely state, that the movie was a nice parody of a facist state, with perpetual war and all... Never read the book.

Ideally, yes. Too bad we don't live in that world. Steps down off the soapbox, and gives it back to Damsel. Okay done now.

Ironically being a crook with a long and successful career isn't easy at all.

Ironically being a crook with a long and successful career isn't easy at all. I know, right? How many druglords survive long enough to retire? But nobody in that line of work thinks about that. To them, it's money, bitches, and power; not home, wife, family. I guess that applies to CEOs too; but at least they think about retirement. LOL
