Thief! Empty
PostSubject: Thief!   Thief! EmptySat Nov 23, 2013 6:45 pm

I heard they're coming out with a new Thief game. I saw some of the game play and I'm not impressed. As soon as they said: "Requires Internet Connection" I lost interest all together. It won't compare to the Thief Deadly Shadows game. It has nothing to do with Bloodlines but it has a familiar feel as far as atmosphere. The creepy factor is through the roof too. Anyone else played Thief Deadly Shadows? What do you think of the Thief 4 game coming out next year?

I haven't played any of the games (not much for stealth myself), but I've been following the news on Thief 4, and from what it looks like, they're scrapping some of the really horrible stuff that fans protested against. So far, they've removed XP gain from kills - which would have promoted murder-heavy styles of playing, apparently not what the games are supposed to be about - and QTEs. Removing QTEs is always a good idea, though. Razz

(as well as Black Flag AC IV, the Shadowrun awesome, the awesome xcom addon...)

Myself, uh, I've bought the Rayman Fiesta Run app.. and had no time to play it because too much damn paper dues Sad

Is that... Is that..? Eliza! cheers

Anyway, if requirement of internet connection bothers you just wait a while, some rip will show up. And then just send those developers some money if you feel bad Smile
Or play Brutal Legend Very Happy Enjoyed that very much very recently.

It's-a me, Mario! No, wait, wrong game. But yes, I'm back. Smile

And yeah, constant internet access for singleplayer games (or modes) suuuuuuucks. EA should've learned that by now, what with the disaster that was (and still is?) SimCity, but corporations, gah. Origins, bleh. If it weren't for BioWare, I'd boycott their games like I do with all the others that have internet requirements and aren't MMOs, but whaddaya gonna do? Sad

BioWare fucked themselves over DA2, Mass Effect 3 ending and the great flop of The Old Republic (lovingly named TORtanic by fans). And DA3 will be another major fuck up since it's being rushed as not to compete with The Witcher 3

You gonna be a good pirate, lass!
Change is nigh. (Oh good it's fucking snowing, I'm doomed.) For movies, I heard there's page that goes by "31s" and they distribute movies. Via torrent. Paying is voluntary. Seeding is rewarded.
When it comes to games, we have Steam; ever heard of Humble Bundle? They make money on numbers, not high prices.
They adapted to what people want. And we people don't want constant internet acces in games!
Yarr!

In Deadly Shadows, I've never gotten any xp for killing people. As a matter of fact, killing someone made it even harder to sneak around. If I was in a hurry and I knew no one would hear, I'd take someone out and clean up the blood but you're suppose to avoid that as much as possible. I did go on a rampage one night and started picking citizens off and of course the city guard came after me and I start picking them off to. I was positioned pretty high so they couldn't get me. That was fun but you can't hide until they give up looking for you if you kill on the streets so I got down and got caught and woke up in prison. LOL

I'd totally agree with you, except on DA3 being rushed. When it was first announced, the release date was set for Fall/Winter 2013, aka now. Right now, the release date is Fall 2014. To me, that sounds good - or at least better than DA2's development cycle (which was awful, yeah, though I liked the combat system - I'm useless for strategy and hate micromanagement). I don't know The Witcher 3's release date (amazon leaked a date in Fall 2014, but I can't find a confirmed date on the game's official homepage right now), so I don't know, but at least CD Projekt Red know their shit (no stupid DRM).

To be honest, if The Witcher didn't feature a male player character, I'd have gotten it by now. Alas, even with mods that change Gerralt into a dudette, I can't get over what others call the clusterfuck of interface and gameplay. Haven't seen it for myself, but if a game makes me work for playing it, that's a no-go in my book.

There is no way I'm paying for a singleplayer game that requires constant internet access.

It is a really good game, one of the best I've played. It just doesn't have nearly as much repalyability as certain RPGs. But more than worth a playthrough or two.

There's a saying: "There is no such thing as bad publicity." It doesn't matter to EA how much people complain about something, the only thing that matters is how much money they pay for the products

The problem with SimCity, however, was roughly the same as with Diablo 3 - the launch was disastrous, nothing worked, servers crashed, etc. When the Mac version launched, some months later, it was the same all over again. And people discovered that always online wasn't, as Maxis/EA claimed, essential, and pretty quickly developed an offline-hack. They still claim it's necessary and won't back down from always online.
Dude, PR like that is bad, no matter what they say.

My point is that as long as people keep buying these games it doesn't matter how horrible the launches are. If the game makes money for the publisher they will make more like that.

True enough, sadly. So maybe I'll throw some money at CD Projekt Red or something (the Steampunk game they've been teasing since the beginning of this year sounds more interesting than the Witcher, I think). Razz

Ahhh my brain is stupid, it's not Steampunk, it's Cyberpunk. Gah. First snow outside, and I instantly get brain freeze (and sniffles, but these don't block your brain quite as much).

The game is called Cyberpunk 2077. As far as I know, they're currently really busy with The Witcher 3, so Cyberpunk 2077 is on the back burner, but I find the concept interesting.
Also, Shadowrun is cool, but there's no P&P group here in Frankfurt currently accepting new players. Sad  Got myself a group for The Black Eye, though, and might start playing Call of Cthulhu soon over Teamspeak! \o/

Yeah, I know that there's a PC game for Shadowrun, but I don't want to shell out money for games right now. I'm kind of living on a tight budget, y'know. Besides, no PC game can trump an old-fashioned get-together for P&P. Razz

If it really is that good, I may get a steam giftcard or something for Christmas, but I don't know yet. The game doesn't run away, as we say in Germany, so perhaps at a later time. But thanks for the recommendation. Wink
