By the way, in case it wasn't obvious, my first post with the picture was a bit sarcastic... a shotgun revolver seems a bit wacky to me.  But the rationale behind it is that a normal shotgun, while easy to use and effective against intruders, is a bit unwieldy in home defense... hangs up on the corners in tight hallways, etc.  This weapon would supposedly solve that, although most people could not handle the recoil.

I wouldn't get one.  I'd rather have a Beretta or Glock 9mm.  More shots, and I don't have a problem with accuracy.  Once upon a time, I'd have gone with .45 ACP, but I'm an old guy now, and I'm not as strong as I used to be.

Don't they say that 9mm doesn't have that stopping power? That in middle-eastern dessert you shoot your muslim terrorist 2-3 times with 9mm and can't be sure he goes down, but with one .45 hit he's so dead his donkey would feel it?

Correct. That's why I'd rather have the .45ACP. But if you can make the headshots, it doesn't matter. Not sure I can do that now; haven't touched a pistol in years.

Actually, I'd love a SIG SAUER P220 (.45ACP). Not everyone likes the trigger pull; first shot requires more force on the trigger than the next shot(s). But most agree that they're the most accurate pistol straight out of the box.

Now I'm gushing about pistols. That's not a Texas thing, that's a PGM thing.

Banning things is funny btw. Those who would use the banned items to break the law wouldn't give a shit anyway.

Banning things makes their possession illegal, and thus offer more options to prevent its use. Banning won't stop the acquirement, but it will make it harder, and that alone is a noteable benefit.

I didn't express my view on gun control, I merely stated the use for banning something.

Banning any item or activity does not stop those determined enough to break the law.  It merely makes the item more costly... and usually increases the penalty for performing the illegal act.  Making drugs illegal does not stop drug use; it raises the price, making drug traffic big business.  Banning ivory doesn't stop poaching.  Making guns illegal merely insures that the law-abiding citizens won't be armed -- only criminals.

I've been on the Interwebz long enough to know that arguing doesn't really convince anyone that their position is wrong.  I'm not going to bother arguing gun control either... I will just make the general statement that the only way to stop something is to eliminate the demand for it, not increase the price/penalty.  Convince people to stop using drugs.  Make owning ivory socially unacceptable, rather than being a status symbol.  Make the streets safe, and people won't feel the need to defend themselves.  All easier said than done.

I've discussed the issue over with joemarra at some point, but it's all about defining the problem ; the issue about gun control is proper policy making. Making them illegal won't solve the issue, but it'll avoid stupid self death in many households. Yes, deterrence effect, but we all know deterrence doesn't work. Sensationalism is the biggest flaw tho ; Canadians have a similar guns per capita than the US, but their murder per capita is lower... By sensationalizing everything we create more problems, more insecurity, you know, perception and reality and shit.

Belgians have a specific humor and view of the world as well (come on, the prime minister has a super bowtie !), and I'm far too implied because of my studies and my own background

The USA could learn a few things from Canada... including how to drive in ice and snow.  (The recent ice storm in Texas proved that most people here have no clue about cold weather driving.)

And Claudia's right; the media doesn't help matters by making crazy killers famous.  The main problem is what we teach our children.

Anyway, sorry for starting the big debate.  I'll stop talking about guns.  (It won't stop me from buying one when I have the money though.  'Cause pow pow bang bang I'm a 'Murican, and all that. John Wayne rulez.   )

Oh, the thing is that in the south, when it gets cold, it gets haily and icy. In Canada, there's just cold, snow, but barely any hail or ice ^^
