Yeah, I don't see much a reason to go away just because you disagree with someone
However, I must make a little self-reflection and say that I probably touched on the "politics" topic and brought it into conversation far more than I should have. To someone who does not agree with my views, this probably was annoying as hell. I apologize for that and promise not to do it so much in the future.

Personally I'm quite worried about the echo chamber effect (people surrounding themselves with like-minded people and ending up thinking every sane person thinks that way because they never get exposed to dissenting ideas from anyone they know) so I think we all could do with being exposed to the ideas of intelligent people from the other side of the political spectrum.
Now, I might not be willing to vouch for the intelligence of all of you lot, but I have encountered stupider people online so you'll do.

I must say I agree. One of the reasons I hang out here is that we used to have quite a diverse lot. Shame it came to such unification. I quite like a well phrased intelectual stimuli of any kind, whether I agree with the point or not. There is a reason I have more publications that times I had sex... To think of it, I tend to publish and reasearch more, so I have no time or energy for futile entertainment...
All in all, I will try to be less Sabbat in my approach, i. e. more considerate.

I think it's less an unification of opinion and more us lefties not bothering to be vocal. There are like only 6 people still regularly posting on the forum and the political spread is fairly even. I know me &Kara lean towards the left, Feral & Jad lean more to the right, and for Philo and Malak I'm unsure. So the number are pretty even, it's just a matter of being vocal.

That caught me a bit by suprise... For how do you hope to change people's opinion without convincing them? I like an exchenge of opinions for sure...

Well, I could spend my precious free time arguing with people on the internet or I could spend it playing games. I chose the latter. And I guess I don't really care that much about many of the issues that come up here.
The big issues as I see them are climate change and other environmental problems, corporate takeover of countries disguised as "trade agreements" (TPP, CETA, TTIP, TISA), technological upheaval of society (AI development + other things), misuse of advanced technology in general, political corruption which prevents us from solving the problems, and last but not least the threat of WW3. Which is something people stopped worrying about after the fall of USSR, but in a way that just makes it more dangerous. You're never more threatened than when you feel safe and allow yourself to lower your guard and become careless. Like nobody wanted WW1 to happen, but one thing led to another and millions died.

Much wow... You know we worry preatty much about the same stuff...? I coild add the threat of unemployment and islamization of Europe. Both for personal reasons.
As for wasting time, think of it: you worry about things that stem mostly from lack of human awarness, yet you consider informing people a waste of time. I truly fail to understand that. I know it could feel like rolling a boulder uphill, but if we give up, then what?

Politically I am bizarre. largely because I recognize a difference in "moral" and "ethical" and feel that often the two do not and can not match. "Moral" being what is good versus what is bad. "Ethical" being what is right versus what is wrong. For instance, I do not believe the US government has any business writing any bill concerning marriage (straight, gay, transX, or otherwise) as the constitution does not provide that power to the federal government. That is ethics. However, I fully endorse any attempt to allow a sick persons loved ones the legal ability to visit them in the hospital, something which current laws require marriage, adoption, or blood-ties to ensure. That is morality. The solution here is rather sticky. I will say that the direction of my vote at the presidential level was largely influenced by a fear of WW3 given Putins outspoken and public fear of one leading candidate. I would have far preferred to vote for the socialist Jew, however.

While I do appreciate the fact dumber people than me have been met, I strongly suggest that you keep voicing your honest opinions in full. Don't hold back, be annoying, don't be "considerate." Speak your mind freely, as this forum is one of the last places where you can do that.
As for climate change I do think it's one of the moments, "The Earth is flat," "We're the center of the universe." I think that we're active for a very short time, have data from even shorter period, but are full of ourselves. This is happening, or will happen, or won't, whatever we do. I do think that we should be considerate of our enviroment, from each one person (litter), and I think that on bigger scale the envi project are based on corruption and are actually dirtier that the current systems. The social things, the leadership must change, for that, we need to be more active. Didn't we have this discussion before?
I have read very little on TTP, TTIP, ETC, but I played Shadowrun enough to know it wouldn't be nice. - Why is the EU so warped by subsidies/dotations so that we're not allowed to compete? - As I would speak for free market, wouldn't it always lead to corporations? It it always bad? How would we counter that, as I don't like the term "regulation?"
The article on AI actually said it all, the solution lies in education. And from there we get to the next point, which is corruption. The thing is, people in politics, attracted to power, are 99% psychopats and sociopaths, with great knowledge of psychology. How do you get rid of them without using another psycho, how do you keep the rich and powerfull in check? Be more active, people should take interest in politics; while the leadership tries hard to keep us entertained and as far from politics as possible. Not everyone should have voting priviledge; model system being old Greek Republic. Without slaves. ...or with?
As for WWIII, I hope that the war has really changed into more informational state, and apart of a few conflicts, armed conflict is unlikely. Well, in Europe. Also thanks to the hated blonde, that wants better relationships with Russia.
Now, scream for me.

The attack caused the death of 3 cops and as heartless as this is going to make me sound it scales very low on the disaster scale. You're still statistically unlikely to get killed if you visit, though if you really wanted to be safe you could just skip the visit to France.
France actually is an ideal target for terrorist attacks because tourism is such a huge part of their economy. Continued attacks will scare tourists away and that can in the long run actually damage the country.

Exactly. Poland and Czech republic are much safer and also rich in history, beautiful nature and beer. And mostly shahid-free.
