| Well, I didn't want to bother people about advertising here since I'm sort of biased for obvious reasons. Go forth and give GOG all your money buy this awesome game without steam's DRM fucking up everything. | |

| Yo Eliza, how's Feral's glorious country treating you? Gonna marry a hussar any time soon?
I wonder if europeans can have languague problems when trekking around EU, you guys seem to be born speaking 4 different languagues. Home sickness must also not be a big problem, since you can merely hop on a train and be back home in a couple of hours.

So that is coverd. Although people of the UK don't seem to learn any second language. I don't know why... Why is transport in Brazil so expensive? With all the rivers you have at least ferries should be cheap. In Poland it takes me 1,5 -2 hours train ride to go to the next big city, which is 70 km far. So don't cry. Not so bad as my student. She is from Krasnojarsk (middle of Siberia) It takes a one and a half week train ride to go there...

| I will cite some reasons, I may not be right in some of them, Philo can correct me if he wishes (I hope he does)
Taxes. Our taxes are extremely high. Every country has corrupt politicians, sure, but ours are in another league. When voting, people pick them saying "my candidate steals less than yours!!!".
Road Maintenance. Our roads and streets are absolute garbage. They are full of holes and debris. It costs a lot and the taxes doesn't help either. They are poorly maintained. In the USA, you drive in zig zag while drunk, and straight while sober. In Brazil, you drive straight while drunk and zig zag the holes while sober! Fact!! That gives you an idea.
Fuel price. We are one of the top exporters of fuel in the world. That's a PROBLEM for the fellow brazilian, because we sell cheap and buy expensive!
We don't build our own vehicles. Actually, we do, but we aren't the owners. I mean, they are from other countries, so the prices are very high. That applies to public transportation as well.
Sorry I didn't go into details. It's because I either don't know them, or my english is too bad to put them into words. Hard stuff.
Feral, We may have lots of rivers, but we don't use ferries. We use bridges. Ferries are for the states where the amount of water/river size goes up alot, so bridges can't be used, and that's only in the north (mainly Amazonas) and few, select rivers.

Our countries seem to have a lot in common... Have you heard the US Army lost an Abrams in Poland during shared maneuvers? Poor thing feel into a roadhole... By using ferries I meant using rivers instead of roads. So ferry goes along the river, not across it. Like they do in Netherlands, Belgium, France, Gremany, Russia, not to mention China (Grand Canal, anyone?). The idea is that the roads need a lot of maitenance, while water seems to maintain itself, especially regarding holes...

So that is coverd. Although people of the UK don't seem to learn any second language. I don't know why... I wish you all spoke English! In day-to-day matters, I am often met by a language barricade, since most people here don't speak English or not nearly good enough to communicate at all. Of course everyone at GOG knows enough English to communicate in a professional setting, but that is expected and not something they get points for. (However, I am surprised by the amount of colleagues I have who had German in school. They may not remember much but it seems everyone I speak to has had German at some point or another in their schooling, even if just a few years.) It's been nice in Warsaw, however; I very much like big cities, and in some aspects this one is no different from Frankfurt. Public transport in the city itself is actually really good (a bit worse than in Frankfurt but you can go everywhere you need to with an acceptable amount of fuss), could use way more subway lines though. And while people are nice, I do not plan on marrying anyone. All in all, it's been great so far, I wouldn't change my decision.

If I went on the street and started talking english at least half the people wouldn't understand a thing. Especially not those who use "cool" american words for everything. The French don't need english, they are the "Grande Nation". And why would the british learn a second language? They don't even speak english as first one. - Quote :

That's just sad!! Omg, corruption and greed will never cease will it? I can't stand corrupt, evil men in power, stealing from the hard working little guy! - Feral wrote:

In the Americas, both South and North, only 4 languages are spoken; English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. But in the United States, English and Spanish are the only two languages spoken, knowing anything else would be close to pointless, unless you have friends or family that speak it too.

| Most of Brazilian population and cities are alongside the coast, north to south. Rivers are mostly West-East direction, since they tend to head towards the sea. But i'm not an hidro geologist, so don't quote me on that Brazil also uses a lot of it's water resources to the generation of energy. Another reason for the underdevelopment of ferries around here is the car-manufacturers lobby. Car manufacturing is by far the most important industry in Brazil, so any other form of transportation is kinda stumped Thankfully for me, I don't like leaving my house much EDIT: I had stopped midway sentence there.

| Here we used to learn German as the primary foreign language, but that gradually changed to English during the 90s. German is now the secondary foreign language taught at better middle schools and as a voluntary subject in primary schools. People at the border tend to also be familiar with the language of the neighboring country (Italian, Hungarian, Croatian).
How well people speak foreign language is largely dependent on their age and level of education. Young people tend to know at least some English, old ones not so much.
