The whole image is a joke on those people that revere singers / celebrities like Michael Jackson and 2pac as some sort of enlightened saints of love. Amy Whinehouse is there and she died of consuming her bodyweight in drugs. | |

| Oh. Right. I am too tired for my sarcasm detector to work properly. Good one. Matrin Septim was a cool guy though. A good ruler. | |

| Martin never really ruled. That's his dad Uriel VII in the picture. He was okay, I guess. But the whole thing about the imperial bloodline being superior to normal people always irked me. It irked me a little less after I learned it was actually them being dragonborn, but I still don't like it. | |

| Honestly a lot of works of fantasy take the "divine right of rulers" theory and just make it be real, with the royal bloodline having some sort of power or attribute unique to them, so I'm kinda used to it. Does not necessarily means they're "superior" though. There's a lot of people on the Septim bloodline hat are either crazy psychos or just crazy. Potema and Pelagius, for example. Most are just a bunch of average rulers whose only "specialness" is being able to wield the Amulet of Kings and light the dragonfires. That's one piece of the ES lore I never got, about the Imperial Bloodline. When playing Oblivion I thought they were the descendants of Alessia, who made a deal with Akatosh. But the alessian empire dissolves and then, much later Reman Cyrodill conquers the whole world and starts his own imperial line, with the amulet of kings and dragonfires. Then whatever happens and it takes centuries for Talos to come around and starts his own imperial line. - don't click me:

| Well, looks like I'm racist. By "the whole thing about the imperial bloodline being superior to normal people" I meant that NPCs believe it, not that it's necessarily true. IIRC one of the blades says that early in the MQ (or even in the tutorial?) and that line always triggered me. Individuals being superior to other people makes sense and is realistic. But being superior to other people because your distant ancestor from several centuries ago was a badass? Yeah, fuck you. History is full of children that were already pale shadows of their parents. And if that's really the only piece of ES lore you never got I am impressed. I gave up on understanding the Sermons of Vivec after the first book I've read. As for the imperial bloodline, I'm inclined think whoever wrote Oblivion screwed up. I mean if you read the Brief History of the Empire (link) you see the line of actual descendants of Tiber Septim went extinct more than two centuries before the Oblivion crisis when the son of Pelagius the Mad died and was succeeded by his maternal half-brother. Fun fact: their mother was a Dunmer so according to Notes on Racial Phylogeny (link) the last true Septim emperor was a Dark Elf. Anyway, either whoever wrote the Oblivion main quest was lazy and failed to check the lore or the emperors having to be of the Septim bloodline is bullshit. One possible explanation might be that you just need someone who is dragonborn, but that's a retroactive explanation that only became possible with Skyrim. And speaking of Skyrim, the thing that confuses me there is at what point in history did the dragons rule the world. On one hand the Nords already lived there, but on that raises the question of what the hell were the dragons doing during the mythic and especially during the merethic era (which supposedly lasted 2500 years). How come there are no signs of dragon rule elsewhere? Did they just rule Skyrim? Why? And why didn't Alduin destroy the world in all that time? Of course my suspected answer is Todd wanted dragons so they were going to have the damn dragons in, one way or another, consistency be damned. And the dragons are cool, so I don't really blame them on that. I just find myself skeptical of all post-Morrowind lore. | |

| As I see it, the Emperor has to be of Alessia's bloodline or equivalent (i.e. blessed by Akatosh, so Dragonborn). And yeah, on Nirn it makes one superior to the masses, by raw power if nothing else. If the wielder of that power is howling mad, give him dog biscuits. Yes, the last Septim was indeed a Dunmer, to the joy of the Elder Council. Kathariah was like Ester: she made sure Jewish Dunmer people occupied all the high places. As for hard to read books, try those by Septimus Sigmus. They are perfect gibberish and true to the lore all at once. | |

| Oh I never meant to imply that i got ALL of ES lore. That would be patently ridiculous The "Dragons/Dragon cult" rulling Skyrim or Nirn always plagued me aswell. Did the Dragons ruled the Snow Elves too? Were dragons already around when Ysgramor came? Did they come after the snow elves were out of the picture? - hah get fucked:
