What's the meaning behind the Star of David? And please don't link me wikipedia. I've heard it said that the two triangles represent Material and Divine.

What's the meaning behind the Star of David? And please don't link me wikipedia. I've heard it said that the two triangles represent Material and Divine. The upper reaching triangle is supposed to represent G*d, while the downward reaching the Earth, of temporal world. However, this interpretation has no authority of Torah or even Talmud behind it. As a matter of fact, the hexagram was used as a decoration in churches much before it has appeared in any synagogue, for it was seen as a shield of King David, so in Medieval Europe with it's fixation on heraldry it has become rather popular. In Jewish circles, although curiously also Hindu and Buddhist it was used in the occult. Tibetan Book of the Dead (Bardo Thodol) links it to death, while Kabbalistic tradition considers it a portal for summoning otherworldly entities, albeit it is usually inscribed inside a protective circle in such instances. As a symbol of Jewish people, as opposed to only Kabbalists, it appeared in 17th century Prague. It was construed that G*d was the shield of David, so as hexagram was a symbol on the shield, it had to represent the Adonai. It gained popularity around the turn of 19th century or so. Lion of Judah was mostly used before that. As for the meaning you mention, it is actually Masonic, not even originally Kabbalistic, albeit it influenced many strains of this tradition. EDIT: *@Draggy: Great picture. True as well. The title could be: "Why so many great scientific breakthroughs took 50 years instead of 5". The point about meetings is painfully relatable.

With me showing zero interest in girls during puberty? They are not blind. Well, they let me tell them when I was ready, I guess. Needles to say my dramatic entrance failed to achieve the effect I hoped for. No shock and awe, shitstorm or anything. All calm and polite talk. They are still really supportive. Only my father moaned he would not have grandkids. Well, I guess I could try, but the odds are slim with a guy... @Dragatus: Very true one. It is a mistake to force an expectation to be a reason only because it fits your pet theory... But margarine is still unhealthy.

My parents reaction wasn't that much different... I wonder if it's because you showed no interest in girls or because you walked around like this *evil laughter*
