I appreciate the irony and wonder if the judge did it on purpose.

It would make sense. The purpose of punishment is to discourage people from repeating bad behavior. If the man's plan worked, it might encourage others to try the same.

It looks more and more like Soviet Union... Soft totalitarianism for now, maybe not so soft in the future.

I'm not well read on life in the Soviet Union, but I think even they were more reasonable than this.

I stand corrected I suppose. Suffice it to say not a good system to try and recreate and I wish people would stop trying, especially in places of learning.

Places of learning are full of people who believe in Marx's teaching. That's how they got the upper hand.

It's sad how some people fear that elements of their culture will be "stolen" by others. I can't help but get the impression that it betrays a certain lack of "cultural self-confidence" for lack of a better term.
