| Start with walking? Loving yourself is bad when you suck, agreed. Albeit sucking well could be a boon Don't get me started on marriages... I have seen my share of failed ones. | |

| Everyone has seen their share of failed ones. The economy and the laws of the western world today simply does not create an enviroment that allows marriages to foster with strength and durability like before. | |

| Certainly.
First is geographical and demographical reasons.
In smaller communities, you can take your time to learn of the character and personality of everyone living there. If someone does something bad, everyone will know about it. In that way, girls who like to sleep around and woman who cheat on their husbands will be known by all, shunned by all and will find it harder to get married. In big cities, you don't have that social pressure nor will be able to have as big a background check.
Marriage would be important because it would be the main source of security and resources for a woman. A few years back in time, most of the work was unfit for women. In tribal times, a men would also protect the women and her offspring against rival tribes and/or predators. Nowadays women can study and work to get her own money, so she does not need the men for that. Also, civilization is far safer.
The availability of sex also plays a part. You can with small cinism see marriage as "Men give resources and security, women give sex and caring". Well, thanks to bigger cities causing less social control and especially the invention of the contraceptive, sex demanded far, far less investment for women. Therefore, the amount of commitment a women came to demand from a man before she had sex with him was far less. This in truth made easier for men to get sex without needing to offer commitment.
The laws have also changed. In order to appease to the female voters, lawmakers continually make the divorce process more and more unfair towards men. Seeing this threat, men simply choose not commit to women anymore.
So basically, the incentives for a women and for a men to get married and continue married are far weaker. Most of it is thanks to the development of the economy, the cities and/or science, and cannot be reversed nor it would be desirable to. Some of it is related to lawmakers, politics and the social view of married man, and that may be changed.
One more thing: since the divorce laws almost always benefits women instead of men, women initiate divorce 70% of the time, 80% by some other articles I've seen but couldn't get to the base data. (https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/08/150822154900.htm). And while college-educated women are less likely to fill for divorce, the divorce between college-educated couples is supposedly 90% female - I got this article but didn't went to check it all for details https://www.unc.edu/courses/2006fall/econ/586/001/Readings/Brinig.pdf
TL;DR Sex is more available to men Money is more available to women Marrige in it's roots is "Men give money, women give sex" therefore marriages have less support to exist.

| Well thought out, Philo.
One thing that I am really happy with is that I am under no threat of losing money to divorce.

I watch the samples dissolve in a strong base and calculate the results, as well as observe growing bacteria... 12 hours at work, little to do.
