| The basics: clean install of CE 1.3.01 under Vista 64, Nosferatu.
I get stuck in the phone call conversation. I keep getting redirected to dialogue choices of "Tell me about the Giovanni" and "Tell me a secret about the Giovanni." Gary never gets to the "Am I the only one who saw this coming?" part. I've tried re-loading from previous save points, but not one from before I entered Fu entirely (I didn't want to slog my way through Fu again).
Is this a known bug from vanilla? I've never seen it in 1.2, UP 6.x, CE 1.2 or CQ 2.0.

| Actually, your problem reminds me very much of this one here: Gary's Phone Call ConversationSadly there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it. At least no solution was found yet I'd happen to know... | |

| I didn't see that thread or I would not have started one of my own.
At least we know it's not unique.

- Yes, I got that ASAP (the Nosferatu haven is my favorite of the four).

| Thanks for the info. I'll look into it, and fix if necessary for 1.4. For now you can help yourself: open \vampire\dlg\chinatown\garyphone.dlg with a texteditor. search for the lines 52 and 53, it should look like this: { 52 }{ Tell me about the Giovanni. }{ Tell me about the Giovanni. }{ 41 }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ What are Giovanni? } { 53 }{ Tell me a secret about the Giovanni. }{ Tell me a secret about the Giovanni. }{ 61 }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ Tell me the deepest secrets of the Giovanni. } replace the 41 and 61 by 91. That leads you to "Was I the only one..." I'd have preferred not to direct you to this fat mess of a dialog block, but this is the only place where I can be sure, you don't miss some other important variable setting. Hope this helps - | |

Hope this helps - Hey, man, thanks for the help. It'll be my first time finishing the game with a Nosferatu. By the way, it did work. Edit: One thing I notice is that there's an .MP3 file for the conversation, \vampire\sound\character\dlg\chinatown\garyphone\line1_col_e.mp3, which starts out "Do you want to save money on long distance calls?" The .DLG file you pointed me to also has this line (the very first thing in the .DLG file, in fact). In the game, though, the subtitle display of Gary's call is what I remember from the vanilla version, "Do you have Prince Albert in a can?" and no audio plays at all for this introductory portion of Gary's call. Now I see that 101 is the "Prince Albert in a can" line in the .DLG file.

| I had the same problem with that 'Prince Albert in a can' dialogue... no sound (CE 1.4). Also, I apologize for not seeing this thread before I posted my own, about "Giovanni Mansion not on sewer maps."
As for the fix... I am reluctant to change the text like that. But if nobody posts another workaround, I'll try it. This is my first time getting this far as a Nosferatu. I'd hate to quit now.

| I tried your fix. When I opened lines 52 and 53 from 'Garyphone.dlg' in a text editor (Microsoft Word), the line number '91' was already there, in both lines. So I changed nothing.
Next? | |

| After a closer look, my lines 52 and 53 don't match yours. Here's what they look like:
{ 52 }{ Thanks. Looks like that's where I'm headed. }{ Thanks. Looks like that's where I'm headed. }{ 91 }{ Humanity 6 & not IsClan(pc,"Nosferatu") }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ Tonight I am a Giovanni. I must attend the party. }
{ 53 }{ I'll take my chances. Thanks for the info. }{ I'll take my chances. Thanks for the info. }{ 91 }{ not IsClan(pc,"Nosferatu") }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ }{ Sounds like a dare... I accept. }
Does this make sense? 'Cuz it's definitely Pig Latin/Greek/Basque/Navajo to me.

| You look at it a while and it starts to make sense. I'm no expert, though. | |

| I'll check DLG files for this (i've been working on them lately, so I see how they work) | |

Certainly your lines look different. The workaround for Munster's problem was for CE1.3. I have changed the dialogue in 1.4 to fix the problem. If there is still trouble, I'll see to it. If you're interested in the way dialogue files work, have a look into Dheu's guide on modding. You can find it in the \tools folder of your game, if you have a Wesp patch, or any mod based on Wesps work installed. And a word of warning: If someone tells you to use a text editor to do something with this game, or for any other game, use Notepad, NOT word. Using a word processor instead of a text editor could change things you don't see, and then you end up with a corrupted file you can't use any more. -

| Notepad or another PLAIN text editor, such as those used for programming. When you use a program that deals with 'rich' text - such as Wordpad, a word processor such as OpenOffice Write, Word, Scriber, etc it saves information on the type of text as well as the text itself. When you save: - Quote :
- Hello
in Notepad it saves the text 'Hello' and nothing else. When you saive: - Quote :
- Hello
in Word it saves: Page 1, line 1, grey coloured text, ariel font five characters 'Hello' end of the document, 1 page of 1 and a lot more unecessary wordy stuff for printers, websites and casually interested Nosferatu identifying the source and location of the computer generating the document.

| Just finished first runthrough all-the-way with a Nosferatu. CE 1.4, with patch. Gary's call worked fine. No other bugs noticed.
Not that impressed with the Nossie, though. Still think all the hiding and skulking is a pain in the ass (which I guess is realistic in game terms, but it gets tedious). You also miss out on a couple of quests, since you can't socialize. Not a big deal, but now that I've run a Nosferatu, I'll play something else from now on.
Looking forward to TFN. I wanna play a min-maxing Twinkie Clan, with +5 Mithril lingerie and a nuclear-powered vampire-heart-seeking stake gun. What? Whaddayamean that's not an option? Dammit!
