Vote for your favorite Vampire Clan

In RPG's I usually like to use them as an opportunity to play someone who is nothing like me whatsoever and I also like to throw the odd spanner into the works of the group.

Many years ago I was asked to join an existing V:TM group. The existing players were playing a group of Anarchs: 2 Gangrel, a Brujah, a Caitiff and a Malk with serious authority issues

So I reasoned the ideal addition to the group would be a Ventrue, obviously.

He was the most obnoxious, power-hungry, self-important, self-aggrandising idiot anyone had ever come across. However, he also had the world's worst sense of what constituted appropriate behaviour to Elders and quickly rubbed the Camarilla of London up the wrong way so badly that the anarchs happily took him under their wing, despite his utter disdain for them.

One of the most fun characters I ever played. Our Storyteller took great delight in putting him in situations where he knew I would have to be as insulting as possible to exactly the wrong people. Fun times.

So I voted for Ventrue. Dominate and Presence to manipulate people into doing what you want, and Fortitude to soak up the damage after you inevitably fail whilst trying to use the other 2 disciplines on the Prince of London.

Incidentally, they were also my Clan of choice for the Vampire CCG. All my friends/opponents would choose the combat-happy Gangrel/Brujah, or the mystical powerhouses of the Tremere, but for sheer political muscle ("I vote that all Retainers be burned to protect the masquerade") you can't beat Ventrue.

The Caitiff should be here as well. Though not technically a clan, they're a blast. Best character I made was a Caitiff (a 5th generation 6,000 year old vampire). I was the story teller and just decided to place this big mean killing machine there to see how the players interacted with it. i had a blast creating it and it sure was fun to see an entire Sabbat pack, including a 7th gen 600yo Tzimisce, being dispatched by this one character (flame control and a level 7 celerity do wonders against vampires... not to mention blood boil... Oh and fortitude level 8 and potency level six added a nice wallop as well... Along with a level 8 melee skill... anyway, once I start to roll dices it seems I never ended rolling them... So many of them...). Anyway, it was a fun story and the players sadly (for their characters anyway) didn't interact in the most reasonable way with this guy (Ventrue's fault... He just couldn't bear hearing that the Story about Caine was nothing but a myth and that the camarilla was just a way for old vampires to keep tabs on new ones he basically frenzied - after I asked him "how'd you know?? You weren't there! I was!" and that sweet vampire I made literally cuted him down to size in one blow... All the others were dully dispatched afterwards :p).

It's a shame no one releases an open ended RPG like Morrowind about the lore of VTM... Actually, vampirism is a disease in Morrowind... I wonder if a mod exists

I voted for Brujah, because I think it's one of the most interesting for PnP. If you don't play the usual 'rabble', that is. How far the mighty have fallen.

In Bloodlines, my favorite is actually Ventrue. I know, Malkavians have the best lines, and Brujah and Gangrel can kick ass. But I like the Dominate options in dialogue. And once you get Fortitude up to 5, the Ventrue is a tank. During that battle with the Sheriff, I usually have Presence and Fortitude going, and his badass sword can barely hurt me.

I, on the other hand, can definitely hurt him. The ability to disappear and reappear behind someone is all well and good, but if you're too predictable, all they have to do is turn around and slash behind them, and you reappear into the path of a whirling blade. Stupid.

For favourite clan I must say Ravnos, there's something about the flaw of crime that give me so many fun ideas. Though truthfully I think I'd be a little too irritating as a Ravnos in any chronicle I were to play so it's just a personal amusement to me. Much like the idea of playing a Malk with a fear of carpet.. funny but entirely unusable.

It's not necessarily crime It's a vice which may be illegal or simply mischief. My personal Ravnos has the vice of reading fortunes, she has a flair for drama and skill with gypsy stones and tarot - woe betide the elder she just HAS to read for, because if it's not what he likes...

Torn between Malkavian and Tremere. I ultimately voted Tremere mindset taken into account.. But I've probably played more Malks. So much fun to build one.

I think the results as of yet are very interesting. Gangrel, Malk, and Tremere in front. The lone wolf, the madman, and the wizard. Hm...

Strictly speaking, I'm still pretty new to VtM and DAV.

But my favorite PnP is Salubri, although I haven't gotten the full RPing experience since my ST refuses to allow the third eye to show up in the game. I'm pretty light-sided by nature, and thought I'd give the clan a go.

And my favorite Bloodlines is Toreador. The "close to humanity" aspect attracted me, and well, I haven't had the time to play any of the other clans through to be honest.

Between the Ventrue, Malkavian, and Setites, I find myself unable to chose only one. Though I suspect that if it were possible, I wouldn't be the one to chose. Though I would desperately hope it was one of the three.


I had the idea for a Character that was embraced as a Ventrue, and was captured by a bunch of Malkavians(don't ask me why), and fed large amounts of their blood, while he was bereft of much of his own. How that fits in with oWOD lore, I don't know. But I've since scaled it down to him thinking, at times, that he is a Ventrue. Meaning that he would speak like any Ventrue(most of the time), but then he might just yell out something that no one understands, or he'll mention something that even he doesn't understand how he knows - but that doesn't mean he is scared of his madness. I'd suppose the only visual cue that he might just be crazy is between the black, almost unkempt hair, his mismatched eyes(one pale-blue, the other red), oh, and the Nazi-ish uniform. At least, that's how I picture the guy, anyway.

Well, if I was a real Malk, and saw somebody in a "nazi-ish" uniform, I'd dementate and/or shoot him on sight (no smilie intended).

Yeah, I wouldn't feel very comfortable around him either. He's been around for awhile though, so I'd stay clear unless he spoke to me first. Though the uniform doesn't mean he actually believes in that, its just something he's favored for a while. That, and the only logo on him is that broken mirror. And he isn't the worst, no matter what he might do in a fight.

And if quantum mechanics is correct, empty space isn't empty and zero can contain unbounded energy. Funny how science is getting closer to magic all the time, huh? Or maybe it was magic to begin with.
