Question regarding language Empty
PostSubject: Question regarding language   Question regarding language EmptyFri Jan 01, 2010 11:39 am

Hi there!

I'm new to the CE and just wanted to know if there is a language restriction.
I am used to play VTMB in german, but as I can see there is no german version of this overhaul.

Now the question is:

Would an install mess up my game? Of cause mostly the conversation/written texts, because numbers and scripts are the same as everywhere Wink.

I'm just asking because I currently have some time left and would offer my help.
Of cause I could only do the german trans, but it's better than nothing.

Also I wouldn't care of playing in english, but still a german version would be nice.

That's all for now Smile.

Greetings,
Cere

As of now a German language install seems to break CE for some reason. We aren't sure why this happens however if you want to look into this and it is a simple language issue that you have the time to translate, we'd be more than happy to have you on board with something like that.

Question regarding language Empty
PostSubject: Re: Question regarding language   Question regarding language EmptySat Jan 02, 2010 6:00 am

The german install breaks CE?
Don't have a clue why, because there is just a difference in the language strings/menues.
The german version is a multi3, so there shouldn't break anything (even I used the english install).

Seems like have to go through the files of the multi3 vanilla and the CE to compare them. Maybe there some sort of OpCode in a libary or something wich breaks the whole stuff.

(not so (d'oh!)) Little Edit:

Just had a look into some files and seem like the german strings just got overwritten. So nothing unfixable for now. I'll try replacing them with the german vanilla files later, to check out how the game will handle it Smile.

Checked out the main menu quickly. It's pretty easy to fix at all.
I'll update my german vanilla VTMB with the unoffical german patch 6.6 (by Voerman) later. This way I can keep the CE 1.2 and just need to repack the needed files. It's mostly the "DLG" folder and some smaller files.

Still dunno why it would break the game - maybe a different version of the engine.dll and vampire.dll?
Those are corefiles wich are also included in CE. Seems like I have to mess around with them, or I'll just play the kiddo and ignore those file, by changing the dialogcallup Smile.

Only thing I haven't found by now are the backgrounds of the loading screen.
Did you guy included custom made ones or are they still vanilla?
Vanilla would be, of course, more easy to handle Wink.

Only thing wich I need to translate by hand seems to be the vdata files. But there aren't that much files. Should take a day/night or something (if i am a slowass) - so quite fast Very Happy

There is just one question left:

In the german version some of the dialogues are sort of "cut", like the "having sex stuff". I could easily restore that. But the question is, if you want that Wink?
It's pretty simple and just funstuff at all. I also just know a few people who would want that just for the laugh Wink.

Edit #2:

Checked it out now. Everything is german, except of the main menu and the cinematics (like the lacroix monologue at the beginning).
Maybe I missed something or haven't checked everything correctly. Also the vdata is still untouched.

Current Stats:

- German VTMB vanilla install
- unoffical german patch 6.6+
- partial CE 1.2 (except of dlg, vdata (current work), cfgs and dlls)

No crashes by now and seems to work fine (as i could see).

Current known issues:

- Mainmenu still english
- Cinematics (subtitles) still english
- vdata (partial english - not everything needed)

Call me blind, but I am unable to locate the mainmenu nor the cinematics (subtitles of course).

Cere

I don't know, if a german installation will break CE, but CE is built on Wesps unofficial patches, and Wesps patch resets any international installation to english.

Besides I never install the german version of any game, if I can get the original english language version. I've had too many problems with bad translation over the time.

When the translator choses the description for recharging a battery for a charging knight, that's only a nice gag, but if you don't get an important clue to some crucial riddle int the game due to bad translation that gets really annoying.

Like I said, CE works also with the german version. Even it is not a simple "fire and forget" install by now Wink.
And I still have my issues with the cinematics and the main menu. Both are still english.

Also I don't can work as I could do, due some stuff called "social contacts" Laughing

Well it's just a little problem - cinematics and main menu. But I don't like to leave my job with only 80% done Wink.
