In truth it was more like everybody watching you, especially with Fred's reaction. Whatever triggered it was unseen as nobody acted strangely.
Nobody chased and in fact they mostly stepped aside as they all acted much odder and set off. It's like they expected any merchant to chase after the neonates for stealing or making a prank to them, but there was no such thing. What the fuck got to them ? Most people may ask themselves.
