Real-time chat - mIRC chat

Fellow Kindred,

We've been part of this community for quite some time, 5 years and a couple of months in my case for example.

I think it's high-time we have some fun in real-time chat. What do you say?

As of now, we can use mIRC.

You can of course find a mIRC client which is much better to use but it requires some downloading/installing.

Oh no! Skype doesn't work here, for some odd reason!
Skype and torrent programs accuse d2d1.dll to be missing or corrupted - I downloaded it but it still doesn't work!

I would play with you guys but only if it's RaidCall...

But I still prefer Raidcall, where we can make separate rooms for designed objectives. A lets talk room, a role play room, a quiet room (for those who want to be online, but don't want to talk), etc...

I gotta agree with Cretino, for (potentially) a lot of people TeamSpeak is way better than skype. At least it eats way less resources on my computer, and has proven very efficient for coordinating raid groups in WoW.

Team speak = win.

Regarding Teamspeak, yeah it's good when you play games, but doesn't it require paid hosting?

I don't know, whatever you say people. To me skype is better, cause I'm using it everyday anyway. Teamspeak is just another additional software, with a very specific purpose. But if you all want to use Team Speak, we shall use team speak.

So what do we choose?

Well, I'd like to keep using my skype only for private stuff, so I'm not going to join the group, no matter what happens. But I'd like having a chat with some of you, sometimes, though time zones might make that difficult regardless of the software we end up using, we're all over the place in that regard.
And while as Claudia said there's free servers we could use, I don't have experience with those, as my guild's server was always privately owned.

Very well then. We're looking for a suggestion that works. Anyone who can set up a free server for Teamspeak is also an option.

I have never seen anyone in the chatbox, TBH. great idea, the community (all of us) just never used it.

Chatbox largely ceased activity around 2013 and is hardly ever used anymore by anyone.

So what makes you think skype or something else will be different?

If only everytime I logged in the latest messages were still there, I would use the chatbox more often.
But with skype, if you find someone online, you can start speaking and talking and chatting

I'll be honest, I probably won't be on Skype very often because I never use it for anything, except this of course. Whatever you guys decide to do, count me IN!!!! Just know that I may not be super available. Real life, modding TFN, managing this website, ModDB, PV, etc... keeps me swamped.

Imagine if I had a GF or wife... omg, you'd never see me.

Since I'm getting some interest for the skype, I'll be making the skype chat anyway. I haven't heard a better idea yet, so why not skype.

Everyone is free to join us. To comment on Eliza's concerns - you're not forced to add people in your contacts, therefore you will be as private as here I supposed.

The last option would be IRC chat, but that would require all of us to install another software.

Edit: Apparently we can no longer make group chats if we haven't shared contacts.

mIRC is not an option either apparently as it is a paid license.

*Googles* Aparently it is now pidgin. Any of the chats it links together would work alright. Ehh, I'm not that social. That and skype are the latest two messenger programs I know of.

I guess that you can just use an unregistered copy and that can be fine. I can give you a server and all.

Edit: There used to be some modifications to the mIRC client, called Scripts. I still have a couple of them on my laptop.

I can upload one for you if you give me a location. There are already some servers we can use.

Edit: Zero, there is even a way to embed chat into a website. Maybe you can embed it to the forum instead of the chatbox that nobody uses?

I could try, but know that this free forum is just a bunch of templates and stuff that I follow, it's for web noobs like maself. I don't know how much 'customization' I can do.

Yeah, I know. I've had a couple of forums like that, so maybe you don't have the permissions. It's a free phpbb forum after all, but it does get the job done so...
