| Aye, there was a revolt
Mainly for 2 reasons
1) Poor people imagining, and some rabble rousers preaching, that it was some kind of euthanization of the poor. The government in Rio (capital at the time) had already removed a lot of poor people from their homes and demolished them for a grand reform project on the city ("to make it more like Paris")
2) The vaccine had to be aplied on the arm. Back in the day if a woman so much showed her wrist she was considered a whore. So all the husbands and sons and fathers got really angry at this random ass doctor showing up and asking to see their women's arms.
Also I think most people in Brazil at 1904 had no experiences with vaccines so there's that.

| They can always turn vegetarian. I'm not aware of either holy book demanding the consumption of animals. Or am I wrong? "I'm selling a domesticated fly. It's well socialized and has a pedigree and passport. It likes it when you give it something sweet. It's friendly to to others and suitable for mating. When you pet it don't press to hard or you may squeeze it's liver out. It's stubborn, but it can give a paw and sit on command. For more information call 112." 112 being the emergency call number. | |

| Meat is Kosher (or Halal for sand Semites) if prepared right. So it is explicitely permitted to eat meat. If I am ever questioned for my life choices in the afterlife, I am going to use it as a valid legal excuse For the one who would buy the fly, calling an emergency number seems like a good idea... | |

| The question isn't whether it's permitted to eat meat. The question is whether it's mandatory. | |

| A catapult walks into a plane... Uh, wait, it is illegal.
As for eating meat, no, at least in Judaism it is not mandatory. In Catholicism it is recommended to mandatory to abstain from it at certain times, too. Much less than it used to be, though.

| Well, then if kosher & halal slaughter is prohibited people can still keep their religion just fine as long as they become vegetarian. | |
