| Does anyone else have a 16:9 resolution monitor?
I got tired of having to play Bloodlines on my nice widescreen monitor, with the characters all stretched out and pudgy-looking. So I read about the 'ResPatch.exe' file in one of the forums, and thought I'd try it.
The game looks great! However, it seems I can't go longer than about fifteen or twenty minutes without the video locking up on me, and I have to reboot. I have a GeForce 210 graphics card, and I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, with all of the curent drivers for both Windows and my graphics card.
Does anyone else have this problem with ResPatch? I know, it says it's an 'Unofficial patch and no guarantees that it'll work', blah blah blah. But is there a patch for the patch? Or maybe I'm setting it up wrong?

| Great. I just used PesPatch to switch my resolution back to 4:3, and it's still locking up every so often. I guess I'll try a fresh install, plus CE 1.3, without doing the ResPatch, and see if it's still doing it. I doubt it; I never had this problem until I ran the ResPatch program. ResPatch was a great idea, and it sure looks pretty... but it doesn't work on my system. Not for long, anyway... | |

| The only time I ever tried to use ResPatch, it didn't seem to do anything, good or bad. | |

| When I used ResPatch it stretched out my game and looked like sh!t so I put it back the way it was and went back to playing on my 4:3 monitor. | |

| Well, now I don't think ResPatch is the problem. I just did a total uninstall and fresh install, VtMB + CE 1.3, and it did the same thing. I guess it's CE1.3, because unofficial patch 6.9 didn't do this. Any reported problems with Windows 7? Or GeForce 210 video cards? 'Cause I'm in the dark... litterally. My screen goes black and the computer locks up. The only way I avoided this during the previous run-through was saving games frequently, and quitting the program and restarting every 15-20 minutes. CE 1.3 is great, but this is seriously annoying. I may just uninstall again and wait for CE 1.4. | |

| ResPatch looked beautiful in 16:9 aspect ratio. I guess it wasn't the problem after all. | |

| I have no idea as to what caused your problems. If it was the version of the dlls, there is a good chance, that you can play CE 1.4 without trouble, because I merged it with UP 7.0 and of course used the newer versions of dlls. But if it's something else, I really don't know. - | |

| I'm 99.9% sure it has nothing to do with CE, and probably has nothing to do with any software or your OS. Honestly if it just goes black and the computer freezes after 15-20 minutes of playing Bloodlines, I would seriously check your computer temperatures, make sure your fans are all working and get a good temp monitor to see how hot Bloodlines gets your computer. Seems to me that lack of airflow in your box is causing your computer to lock after playing for a certain amount of time.
Try installing a different game and playing that with the temp monitor running, your video card shouldn't be getting much hotter than 70 degrees and if it is, you may have a problem.
I could be way off base here but it sounds more like a hardware issue than a software issue.
Here's what I use, it's called Everest Home Edition.

| Well, I figured I'd do a little troubleshooting. I went into the 'Options', and the 'Visual' tab, and set the Shadows to the 'Simple' setting, since shadows are usually pretty graphics intensive. Lo and behold, no more video locking up. But a GeForce 210 video card, with 512 MB, should NOT be the problem. My computer is so far above the recommended system requirements for this game, it's not even funny. Either there's a compatibility issue with the video drivers, or maybe some weird Windows 7 thing, since the game was designed for XP.
Swear to God it was working on patch 6.9, though. Anyway, this is now a non-issue. Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

| BTW, just to put this one to bed... yes, it turns out the fan on my video card had died, although I thought it was still running when I peeked in the side vent with a flashlight. That was causing the video processor to overheat and shut down. Not a ResPatch or CE1.3 issue after all.
Thanks all. | |
