| Why does protean claws use melee feat to determine damage? Unarmed(brawl) fits much better and 5 level protean even gives bonus to unarmed combat. It doesn't make any sense. Is this a bug? | |

| Loyt you are totally right. I just created new Gangrel character and found out that damage of protean claws indeed depends on your MELEE not BRAWL skill. It must be a bug that no one reported until today. | |

| Not really a bug; just another variation from the PnP game. In VtM, an attack using Claws is based on your Dexterity + Brawl talent. However, in Bloodlines, Brawl and Melee feats are based on your Strength + Brawl or Melee skills. They probably did that to balance things out, because Sneaking and Lockpicking feats are already linked to Dexterity.
The guys who do the Mods might change Claw attacks so that they are based on your Brawl skill, if you ask them nice and they agree with your reasons. Childe of Malkav does the Camarilla Edition updates now, while Zer0Morph is working on the TFN mod.
Makes no difference to me -- I've never played a Gangrel past Santa Monica, and I never will while the Male Gangrel skin looks like a white Rastafarian wannabe, and the level 5 Protean warform looks like a bat-werewolf crossbreed. Too silly.

| This is very doable, though TFN doesn't use Protean but it would be easy enough for Malkav to do it. He would just need to open up the claw item and edit the damage line, which determines which feat to calculate damage. | |

| Well, i did a bit of research by myself before starting this topic.
Foud this file: \Vampire\vdata\items\item_w_claws
but where are already lines : "Dmg" "2 Aggravated Close_Combat_Brawl DMG_SUPERCLAWBITE"
so i thought where must be some other places to apply changes. Any ideas?

| Yes, I also checked, and found the same. So it should be linked to brawl, as far as I know. What did you do tho find it's linked to melee? - | |

| It listed in the info screen of claws (in inventory), first line. Also in lines of damage and feat bonus - they depend on melee, brawl has no effect at all. | |

| I ran some tests today. According to the amount of damage I could do with protean, it has to be linked to brawl (inventory told me max damage 16, but I got a 48 damage floater on one hit). I haven't found out yet, why it shows as melee in the inventory, and how to change that. Once I tried to set the knife to brawl instead of melee, and got the same results: damage was calculated according to brawl, but the inventory text showed melee skill and stats. - | |

| So it's just the interface misdescription? Then it's minor. But still a bug. | |

| Didn't check the stats yet, but in my testversion you get the claws, and hop around in this funny protean way. So it should be brawl. - | |

| Ok, so I'm a little confused with *this* and that. So what do the claws use, where should I put my dots? | |

- LOL! When I first read this entry I saw: "but in my test version you get the claws and hop around in this BUNNY protean way." It painted an odd image in my mind.

I kind've thought the whole game gave me that feeling, lol.
