Changing music without CE patch Empty
PostSubject: Changing music without CE patch   Changing music without CE patch EmptyTue Dec 21, 2010 11:28 pm

I saw you can pick your own music with the CE patch. Well, that's what I want to do, but without installing the patch - I'm not interested in the other changes for my current playthrough.

I tried looking at the game files to see which file affects music. I'm guessing there is one as the patch creates a new folder called "clubs" instead of the "licensed" folder, but I can't find it. Can anyone tell me where it is (or does it requires unpacking from a certain file) and what do you need to edit? Even if some python is necessary I can probably manage it myself (as long as it's simple...).

Just to be clear - I don't want to add the DJ. Just to be able the change songs and tell the game where to look for them without needing to rename .mp3 files.

Thanks.

Hi Octarine!

For changing the music without renaming mp3 files, this is possible, but I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have modding experience for this game.

For some clubs like the asylum, the music is coded in the map file (.bsp). Then you have to edit the path for the music object using the vpk tools.

For other clubs, the music path is coded in the sound schemes. The problem here is that most of these are not unpacked from the archives in Wesps patches, so you have to find and unpack them yourself.

So it's probably easier just to create a \backup subdirectory in \music\licenced, move the original sound files there, and then copy in your soundfiles using the names of the original files.

But whatever you do, make sure not to use anything that contains additional information created by the windows media player as this will crash the game. Mp3s with more than 256 kbps also can cause trouble.

Thank you for your help. I don't mind getting my hands dirty with a bit of modding, and I've done a bit of basic programing so not afraid of that either Smile.

My first try wasn't very successful - I tried editing the asylum .bsp file and ended up messing something up. I hope I'll have some time to try again soon.
