Darkness, My Savior
Darkness rides with me,
She takes me in her care,
Shelters me, feeds me,
Lets me know just who I am.
When loneliness consumes me,
I follow my beautiful blackness,
To shadows that dance for me,
To shadows that hide my tears,
To shadows that become my partners.
Light can never touch me here.
I bathe in the beauty of my darkness,
I hold it close to me like a lover.
When light rises and its tendrils creep toward me,
I curse its attempts and laugh at my own success in my escape.
Darkness carries me now,
She takes me down, in her care,
Shelters me, feeds me,
Lets me know just who I was.
When the end shows itself to me,
When time stops for me,
When life pauses and takes a breath,
There will I hang, betwixt the two
Until… Oblivion comforts my soul.
