Cant exit ventrue tower.

I've been looking around the internet for a solution for this problem but have yet to find one. After I get the sarcophagus back and have a discussion with LaCroix and Beckett in Ventrue tower, I am tasked with going to see Johansen, something about professors. So I go back down to lobby and try to exit ventrue tower and get back into downtown but the game crashes on the loading screen.

This crash has prevented me from playing for the past 2 days as I cant progress any further into the game. Only one exit and I cant even get out.

Then I used the console to noclip into the basement to try to use the sewers. Same problem. I just cant leave ventrue tower at all.

Tried reinstalling the game and the mod several times already but no dice.

I don't know what causes the crash, but even reinstalling won't help, if you use the old save file. If you still have a save file from before the Giovanni mansion, or one of the upper levels there, you can try that.

What exactly did you install? Which Windows version do you have, and what kind of graphics chip? ATI, nvidia, something completely different? Onboard graphics chip or video card?

I tried several things.

VtMB without the official 1.2 patch with Final Nights. = Crash
VtMB with the official 1.2 patch with Final Nights. = Crash
VtMB alone unpatched = Cant load save file

I'm using Windows 7 and I have an NVIDIA GeForce GT540M. Its a laptop model. But I havent had any previous problems before.

I tried playing from the very start of Giovanni mansion again till I reach the end and transported to LaCroix's place.

Talked with him yada yada yada. Then try to leave. Same problem, crash on the loading screen to downtown.

I have the crash log, want me to post it?

You're using old saved files after the reinstall. You can't just load a save file from a new installation, even if it's the same installation.

I don't know what causes the crash, and I can't read the log. I'm not an expert on that kind of stuff. So posting this won't help.
The install in itself seems in order, but it is very important to give exact info what you have installed. I thought you were talking about problems with Camarilla Edition, because you posted in that part of the forum.

Even before I reinstalled, I went through the crash logs and they all said the same thing. Regardless of what I try to change, graphic settings, sound settings, etc.

Have you tried playing the game only with the official patch, with no mods ?

It's normal you can't load a save game from "VtMB alone unpatched = Cant load save file", since your save file is from the modded version of the game.


Because I've been through TFN and finished the game without any problems. Have you tried playing in windowed mod (by adding -window after your -console in your path of the short cut) ? Have you cleaned all processes ?
I'd try installing it somewhere else than in your program files (I usually run it from my documents <_<)

Honestly, I've gotten too far into the game to go back and restart again.

Tried window mode, still crash.
Tried installing it somewhere else, still crash.

Its only that one loading/transition from Ventrue to downtown that seems to be causing the crash.

EDIT: I tried loading a MUCH older save in chinatown and took the taxi to downtown. Whadya know, I crashed. So there seems to be something wrong with loading the downtown map or something of that sort.

Its strange, because I could always go back and forth between downtown and other places fine. But as soon as I was done with the giovanni mission and tried to leave, Downtown doesnt work anymore.

Anti-Virus and firewalls are off so I doubt anything is blocking it.

Well then expect problems. I sympathize, but not too much because Claudia told you how to fix it.

Old saved games will mess you up. I've played the game so many times that once more wouldn't make much difference to me.

The first time I played, the game crashed when I left the Society of Leopold, even after the official 1.2 patch and replaying the game to that point. I had to use a console command to return to L.A.. (This was before the unofficial patches.)

The first time I played a Nosferatu, there was a bug in Gary's mission to Chinatown that Malkav had to make a patch for. I patched the game and I had to start over from Chinatown.

Sooo basically PV says that you have too much items. Drop a bunch of items from your inventory.

I guess that worked? Cause we never heard back....
