You just keep denying involvement Malkav, but the evidence is all around. And whatever makes you think I'd want to diablerize a Malkavian, off all things? I'll pass really. Tremere on the other hand.... Now they're the interesting ones! And a challenge to get too. *quickly hides*

I was born the same year and don't remember much of the 80s either.
I have more memories of the 90s. Like how after my country was no longer communist there were suddenly different products of the same type in shops. And there were more adds for stuff on TV. It's funny to think now how it used to be exciting to see an item in a shop that was advertised on TV.

Ah yes, the good old stone age, when people were a thousand times smarter than today.

LOL Good comeback.
I doubt our IQs have changed significantly since the stone age. The problem is that natural selection no longer takes care of all the stupid people. Thanks to modern medicine, these idiots can usually survive their mistakes, and go on to breed stupid children. (sigh.) Nowhere is this more painfully evident than at Wal-Mart. Just saying.

I vote for getting rid of all safety warnings to begin a new natural selection

I'm not sure that there are actually more stupid people than before. Well, there are in absolute numbers because the world population is growing, but in terms of percentage I doubt there's been a notable increase. I think what is actually happening is that before smart people used to hang out with other smart people and interacted less with stupid people, but now thanks to the internet and other communication technologies everybody is basically in contact with everybody else. So you come in contact with stupid people much more often.
There is actually some evidence that we are evolving right now and people are becoming smarter. The entire video is worth watching, but the part mot relevant to our discussion is around 12:49.

A interesting debate going on here. As someone who was born in 1950, as someone who has seen 6 decades of change it is interesting to look back.
The 50s were when the young started to change the way they lived. The war was over things began to pick up. They had more money to spend and rock and roll arrived on the scene.
My personal view of the 60s in my teens was having a lot of fun. There was a lot of good music around. But what really sticks in my mind about this decade are.
The assassinations of JFK and Martin Luther King, The May 1968 student and worker uprisings in France. I remember this as I was on hoilday in France at the time.
The 70s were all doom and gloom riots every where.
The 80s saw the rise of the yuppie culture. All greed.
The computer boom really started here, with the advent of Appple IBM etc.
I bought my first Computer in this decade The Commodore Amiga 500 with 1 mb of ram. Still one of the best computers ever made in my view.
The 90s saw the real take of the internet and know in my opinion and this may be a bit of a simplistic view. It has changed socail interaction and not for the best.
Kids these days are not talking one to one they text, facebook etc. That’s all I see them doing these days.
As for the original topic all I need for a phone is calls and as I am a bit hard of hearing texting.

As some of you already know, I've got an iPhone (3GS, so it's quite old now ; but it's still up to date with much stuff).
I need my phone to text and send email mostly. I also use it to take some pictures, sometimes. I need also to be able to navigate on the internet. I also need it to play sounds (music, podcast) without earphones since I use it to give class with it.
For me, the Iphone is a pure win ; I can do about anything I need without being at home. I can redact in several languages without the fucking autocorrect fucking me up too much (since it's just a keyboard switch, which I can do from anywhere, without needing to go to the settings on what). Here in France it was quite cheap too. I pay about 35€ per month for my subscription (which includes 2 hours of communications, free 3G, free sms, free wifi, free email), and it includes the phone.

I have no love for this generation, but neither for previous ones.
I can get how children were brought up in stricter households earlier, but i can't get this "honor and discipline part" that you talked about, PGM, especially in the 60's when it was all about Peace and Love (peace being pot and love being "fuck all that moves"). Of course, i'm just making an assumption since i haven't lived in that time. Pherhaps you could enlighten me. And whatever scrap of honor that survived the beginning of the 20th century was buried in the Second World War / Cold War.
The truth is that information is much more generalised and of easy access. There's a website that translates the best speeches and classes of Harvard, Oxford and all top universities in the world to Portuguese, and disponibilizes for free. Most of the knowledge i now use in my life i learned either through books outside of school, about topics that weren't talked about decades ago or would never be avaiable in the place i live normally; Or through CDs / DVDs that i downloaded through the internet, who would have costed me around 1000-2000 U$ otherwise, and i can't afford that.
The generation of today can have information much more easily than previous ones. Before, if you weren't born close to a intelectual center and/or with rich parents, you would have trouble. Not impossible, but hard. Do our generation, as a whole, seems stupid? God yes. Absolutely. But I'll quote what Dragatus said:
"I think what is actually happening is that before smart people used to hang out with other smart people and interacted less with stupid people, but now thanks to the internet and other communication technologies everybody is basically in contact with everybody else. So you come in contact with stupid people much more often."
To end it, I do believe that, while you're not bound to your upbringing, most people will never break the shackles of it. So the previous generation to ours is also partially (emphasis on partially) to blame for the generalized stupidity of today. And no, i'm not saying the generation of today is perfect, but we do have a lot more access to knowledge and information,if the individual chooses to look for and learn from them.
About cellphones, I would only buy a cellphone that: -Calls and texts (obviously) -Play Music -Take pictures and small movies : It is awesome to take pictures of the amazing, mostly "out of nowhere" things your friends do in the moment, and before you go "hurr durr why u no use a camera u fuckin superficial": It is because all the cameras here are fucking big, so no need to bring one if your phone can take pictures. -Little games to pass time if i'm bored.
My current cellphone is about one year and a half / two years old, and i see no reason to buy a new one. It is, of course, miles, miles away from "iAnything", and is grossly outdated for european/united states standard, but ehh.

TL;DR version: People are stupid, people were stupid, internetz is cool A phone should call, text, play music. play games and take pics/record shit.
You're welcome.

I would like to have a Samsung Galaxy 2 phone, because I know people who have those and people who have Iphones, and I like the Samsung better. But while I would like something newer, the fact is that I do quite well with my old Nokia dinosaur phone (similar to the kind they joke about being indestructible on the Internet). I don't have that many people call me anyway, so phone + text is all I really need.

< My phone (Samsung sgh-e380). Got it way back in 2007, and still use it ^-^. It calls, texts, plays music (though there are only 4 songs on it and the phone claims that memory's full) and can take pictures/record short movies. What more do you need?!
