| When you 2 get old as dirt like me...the 3-7 am thing looses a bit of it's appeal, but I've been there LMAO. I now have this desire to go watch the original of the movie you 2 were just talking about, it's been about 20 years since I last saw it...
Have any of you seen 30 days of night...it was pretty good, different, but good in it's own way.

Really, I'll add you up on AIM then dude. How's the CE/CQM merging coming along? Awesome! I was hoping you'd succumb to my will, HAHA. Burgermeister is the one primarily working on the merger and from what I understand he already did it, right now he and his team and Beta testing it for compatability issues. I've been spending all of my time working on the next release of CE. - Maximus1 wrote:

Have any of you seen 30 days of night...it was pretty good, different, but good in it's own way. I've always been a night owl, in fact when I was 19 years old I had a third shift night security job in an old run down factory about the size of 2 football fields. Best job I ever had, I was completely alone and I'd walk around doing my rounds from midnight - 8am reading the game manual for VtM Redemption (this was back in 1999). In fact I still have that old book sitting right here next to me as my inspiration for CE. The pages are halfway falling out but I still hold it dear to my heart. I even had that game manual shipped to me when I was in Georgia for my Army training back in 2002, first thing I did when I got home was play Redemption. PS: Burgermeister01 made me buy 30 days of night about a month ago, fun fun movie!

Well I'm glad to hear it's going well, it's going to be amazing once the CE and CQM are merged, and I'm anticipating CE 1.2! - Maximus1 wrote:

| Shakes his head at the selection My favorite vampire movie: 1. Dracula 1931. While the earlier 1922 Nosferafu is a very good vampire movie and has its moments, it is Bela Lugosi's performance as Count Dracula that clinches it for me. What hurts this film the most is the production company had to reduce its budget due to the onset of the Great Depression. The original plans had to be scripped and so they went with the play version of the film and even took footage from other earlier films to save on money (even used a scene from Nosferafu and redid it with Lugosi). The worries about censorship caused them to put limits on sexual costumes (something they didn't do for the Spanish version they were doing at the same time) and having Todd Browning as director hurt because he was still grieving over the death of the original actor meant for the role as Dracula, Lon Chaney Sr. (Chaney had been a close friend of Browning). Browning also didn't have confidence he could make the the transition as a director from silent to sound (and it shows). Despite these problems it is Lugosi's performance as Count Dracula that keeps this as the vampire movie I most enjoy. I've seen the Spanish version done by the same crew using a different actor as Dracula and you can see the difference between Logosi's power as a performer, someone who had done Dracula on stage, his authority and skill on-screen makes it for me. The only actor who comes close to Logosi is Frank Langella in the revival of the Dracula play on Broadway in 1977. Now if we were to extend this to television then I would pick the horror soap opera, Dark Shadows, as my favorite vampire series. True, there were other creatures on the series, but it was Jonathan Frid performance as Barbarus Collins that saved the series and his vampire character dominated the series afterwards. Horosha | |

| I think one of my favorite is Interview with the Vampire because how far back they let you see in there life. You get a nice feel of the main characters.
I have to say i also love Underworld Rise of the Lycans. I think it is one of the better ones in the series. Even if you know how it is going to end because you seen the other movies it still has a very good story.

| Hello everyone. I have been reading the forum for a while now, and today's the day : I registered and am now posting.
Why is there Twilight mentionned ? There are vampires, really ? :-)
And why isn't there the Underworld series ? (I mean, they are based on the Masquerade, even if only the first one is watchable)

(I mean, they are based on the Masquerade, even if only the first one is watchable) Twilight was mentioned because it's the latest and most popular vampire movie series ever, and yes I agree they stray ALOT from common vampire lore. Underworld wasn't mentioned because there was a very limited number of spaces available and quite frankly I just forgot.

| I put up Twilight soley because of it's popularity, not because their good movies or because they hold true to vampire lore. Quite frankly I saw New Moon and was pretty disappointed. Twilight was good "as a movie" and horrible "as a vampire movie", New Moon sucked on both fronts. | |

| Well, I simply love the Dracula movie from 1992 based on Bram Stoker's novel. Gary Oldman is great as Dracula, and even though the movie really differs from the book in the storyline (but in a very good way, I think!), it's one of the best book-adaptions I've seen so far. And Anthony Hopkins is an awesome sort-of-crazy Van Helsing. xD Somehow, I can laugh to tears while he's on the screen, like when he's having dinner with the Harkers, but also believe him if he's serious, for example at the 'exorcism'. That's a difficult job, but I loved how it worked out. Interview with a vampire is nice, too, but nothing to struck me down. (To admit, I haven't yet read the books, but I'm working on it. ^^ Takes *cough* some *cough* time.) | |

| I must agree that Underworld was very enjoyable for me, and it wasn't on the list.
There was also a series from Canada back in the early nineties called Forever Knight. If you get a chance to see it, I highly recommend it. The short-lived recent series Moonlight (I feel) kind of stole the idea from the Canadian series.

I haven't seen any of the Twilight movies (Harry Potter for adolescent girls and 20-something women), but I'd say Stephanie Meyer's vampire lore is as "authentic" as Bram Stoker's or Stephen King's or Anne Rice's or Hammer Films' or White Wolf's or yours or mine. Edit: Until Coppola's "Bram Stoker's Dracula," this was, in my opinion, the best Dracula (and best vampire) movie.

| I voted for Lost Boys as not only is it my favourite Vamp flick, it's also in my top 10 of all movies, if only because of the vice-like grip it had on my teenaged mind way back when. I can still recite the entire script as I watch it. Sad but true.
The first Anne Rice movie is also pretty good, not really as good as the book (but with less soft porn at least), but I read the book at a very impressionable age and the fact that the protagonists were Vampires was vquite unique at the time. In fact, along with Stoker's classic and a few other lesser-known stories it was one of the books I chose to analyse for my A-level English Final Paper: "A study of the interpretation and symbolism of the European Vampire myth in modern English Literature".
I was, it would seem, a little obsessed with vampires as a younger man.
But I have to say, one of the best vampire movies ever, at least of the modern genre, is missing from the list: "Near Dark".

Yes, you should only be able to do that with Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I'm gonna have to check out Lost Boys again after all this recent praise (I saw it once, years ago).
