Subject: Now HERE's a dark topic!! Tue May 13, 2014 1:03 pm
I seriously need some major help guys, like for really realz.
After I got done modding TFN 1.2 I moved on to playing a FREE MMO called Path of Exile which is basically a Diablo III clone. It's free which is great but it's getting kind've boring now. I played it for about 3-4 weeks and I think I'm done. I don't really want to go back to League of Legends because the people are retarded.
So, I was thinking about firing up Fallout 3, Skyrim, The Final Nights (again), or something else. Nothing is really grabbing my attention right now for some reason. I'm working a full time job and lifting weights in the gym like 6-7 days per week but since Aphrodite left me, I still have some free time so I want to spend it gaming, I just can't figure out which game to play?
I don't like First Person Shooters or Sports games and I only play computer games, not consoles. I prefer role-playing of some sort. Does anyone have any ideas? I was looking at State of Decay and The Old Republic MMO also as a potential choice.
I need some ideas.

State of Decay is good
How you feel about point and clicks ? Broken Sword 5 is out and ready
Husband here poked The Stick of Truth (the South Park game) which is really fun and random RPG (it's really good to be fair, if you like South Park )
Alan Wake are a good way to spend some time too
I'm a huuuge fan of a little random survival game from steam, Don't Starve, too.

Aren't you all about challenging games? Go play some Dark Souls 2 and some Outlast. If you can't handle it then you should consider the sissy games recommended on this thread

The only pc game I'm playing are: VTM, Fallout New Vegas and Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic (mechanics are very similar to DnD)

Depending on how much you have against FPS, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl & Call of Pripyat and F.E.A.R. 1 are fantastic games that have reduced me to self-proclaimed mindless fanboy status. Metro 2033 is also good.
Civilization V and Warlock - Master of the Arcane are good for hex-based turn-based strategy. Rome, Medieval 2 and Shogun 2 are good Total War games. Warcraft 3, Universe at War, Age of Empires 2, Dawn of War: Dark Crusade with Firestorm over Kronus 3.7 mod and Starcraft 2 are good RTS games. I will also recommend Heroes of Might and Magic 3, offend it and I will fight you on the streets.
Mount & Blade: Warband is a great RPG which I wholeheartedly recommend; Napoleonic Warfare DLC also gives a nifty multiplayer set in a time when muskets was the dominat firearm. Glorious shit. Cthulhu Saves the World is a good one yes, it's sort of like pokemon in terms of style minus catch them all. Spore can probably keep you entertained for a fair bit. The first and second Thief games are good, the third is decent. The newest is pretty good mechanically, but not so much lorewise.
The Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us are grand point-and-clicks, I particularly like the latter; might give you inspiration for future mods or WoD ideas. Long Live the Queen might also keep you entertained for a bit, just be prepared to die a lot
Chivalry: Mediveal Warfare might be enjoyable for multiplayer action game. For MMO, I have little to suggest to be honest. Wildstar has open beta until the 18th this month, then you have to pay. If you're interested it might be worthwhile, otherwise may as well skip it. The Secret World has a very interesting universe in my opinion, but the combat gameplay is extremely dull.
Hope it helps.

Or you can join the Living World of Darkness.
New York just got a visit from the Sabbat and in Zuster we burned the archbishop. The archbishop was challenged to a monomancy by a Pander named Chunk and the challenger picked the time as midnight in a burning factory.
For the record, Chunk survived and was granted the title of bishop.

Total War series may be too strategic for you, since you want RPG...
A bit of FPS in them, but both Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light have great feel to them. I love them. Mostly because they give the chance to feel like an ordinary guy in post nuclear war world where humanity might have survived only in mutant infested, dark Moscow's Metro tunnels, where ammo is currency...

I'm sorry, I only saw this topic now, but there's a sale going on at GOG.com since Monday, if you don't have an aversion to older games, have a look if anything strikes your fancy. Even if the sale is almost over and had very few rpgs in it, the prices are okay even when they're not discounted (around 6 bucks for most old games, newer ones or newer indies cost a bit more) or have a look at the Humble Bundle over here, they have a different bundle each day for their sale right now and also have a lot of other games on sale at their store.
Otherwise, consider other TES games (Morrowind is my favorite game of the series, though the leveling system sucks, especially if you compare it to Skyrim, and Oblivion isn't much better and sucks at immersion), Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 (DA: Inquisition will be out this fall, yay), Mass Effect, any other Bioware title (that's some heavily RRRRRpg stuff, though, with mountains of lore), any of the Divinity games from Larian Studios (Dragon Commander is very much a strategy game, though!), or, if you want an MMO, give Guild Wars 2 a try, I liked the personal storylines your characters have, even if I'm not a fan of PvP, but it's subscription-free, which is nice.

Wow guys, you posted some great games there! After careful consideration I decided to check out Civilization V with both expansion packs. I downloaded it last night and got it installed this morning. After work tonight I'm going to go home and try to make sense of it.
If Civ V sucks then I'll keep looking for something until I find it. Thanks for all of the ideas!!

/sign I can spend hours creating a character in an RPG, but I'll throw the game across the room (figuratively) the second I notice that combat is tedious and clusterfucky ... or merely slow. Which is why Shadowrun Returns is the first turn-based RPG I've found to have a fast enough past to satisfy my attention span. Then again, the ridiculous miss rates (60% hit chance for an enemy that stands directly in front of you? o rly?) don't affect my rifle-toting dwarf, which might have contributed to my progress...

Agreed. Spending hours on character creation and developement is O.K. But I throw it away when every item influences a dozen or so different atrributes, and you spend more time calculating the best choice of weapons and armor every time you find a new piece, than for actually playing. IMO, weapons are for dealing damage, armor is for protection against weapons, and other items can be used for general attribute bonusses or resistance against specific damage types... But a sword that increases melee damage, protects from lightning, and raises intelligence is just a big load of BS.

You would hate Path of Exile then because that's exactly what the game is all about. It's all about loot loot loot and the magical properties on that loot.

Now, loot is fine in a game, especially if it's really cool loot, but if I have to actually use my brain and my miserable skills in math to figure out if it's better than what I already have, then loot is not cool. It needs to scream 'awesome' before I can be bothered to look up whether it's better, or it needs to be really obvious. WoW's colour coding was a nice step in that direction, and you can totally create an item system that isn't as clusterfucky as, say, Dragon Age II's, which has only totally lame random loot (that speeds up the process, though: only what you buy from select vendors is actually useful, so just sell everything else you find or don't even bother with picking it up - not the best way to excite a player!).

Well, I took the 40 hours required to learn how to play Civilization V and I'm happy to say it was well worth it. While the game is incredibly complex and difficult to understand at first, once you actually DO learn what the hell is going on, it's a brilliant masterpiece. Words can't express how fun Civilization V has turned out being and I expect it's going to consume even more hours than it already has.
Civilization V, if you like turn based strategy games (like chess), you'd love this. If chess bores you, then you'd hate this game.
