Everyonce in a while someone with little to no knowledge of economics will come along and say something that looks smart only to people who haven't studied economics. I would argue that the work that says that higher average trust = more GDP is misleading.
The reason said societies had high trust in one another was because they had effective institutions As institutions I mean not only actual institutions such as universities, but also laws and codes of conduct.
When a society has institutions that heavily reward and enforce honest behaviour and effectively punishes dishonest behaviour, over time the people of this society will do dishonest behaviour less and less and do honest behaviour more and more. As a result, the members of this society will be more trusting towards one another.
It is not trust that gives more economic growth. It is effective institutions that give more trust and economic growth at the same time.

So you are effectively saying that European economy will plunge as both institutions and trust are deteriorating?
On a different note:

V4 has a chance, if we leave asap. Hungary might very well be fine, while Slovakia will abandon € rapidly.
Will definitely watch later.

Well, the mass immigration has caused a rise in crime per capita at least in germany, if I recall correctly.
but slow your role, Cathy Newman. I don't have enough info on the current institutions of europe to make such a claim.

This is sad yet fascinating. Could also make a good basis for a VtM game.

My dear... That stuff would have been considered backward and superstitious in 15th century Romania...
Not to mention what any self respecting Inquisitor would have done with such lynching mobs, as it was a crime to overstep into Inquisitorial jurisdiction. One met with a fiery reaction...
