Vampyr is an Action-RPG vampire game that takes place in 1918 London.
This game comes out in like 4 days

Oh mayn I remember hearing about this like a year ago. Shall write as I watch, but as of right now having checked on steam it's a very high-priced game at 50 euro (45 with the -10% off), unsure how the nearby Steam Summer Sale will affect that.

1-3 mins in - Showed some weird trailer with some singing in the background. Not too sure what's going on and couldn't listen cuz fuck singing.

10 mins in - As of right now the voice acting is passable. Not great, but you can listen to it well enough. Mostly bothered by the pacing of the conversations, they feel very frozen.

13 mins in - Just saw some combat, feels kinda Arkham Asylum or Shadow of Mordor-esque based on how it looks, but it's hard to tell without looking at controls. I'm personally okay with the notion if I've got the right idea. I like how the health of a person determines their blood quality and thus how much exp you get from them, so you ideally wanna keep the people healthy.

22 mins in - Crafting seems servicable, if unimpressive. Not an exciting addition to the game, but it might have its uses and serve a worthwhile purpose at the end of the day.

24 mins in - Unsure what I think of the powers yet, haven't seen a great deal. There aren't a lot of icons, but you seem able to upgrade the ones there about five times each, if I saw right potentially into branching paths. Don't quote tho, I'm too lazy to go back and double-check atm. I do like the lore reasoning for going back to the safe house and upgrade; when a Vampire drains a person they absorb their memories (killing them in the process) and need to rest to basically digest it all. Not urgently, but ideally; so you can very feasibly take a walk around before you digest and upgrade.

Also when you rest and go to the following night you can see the consequences of your actions if you killed someone the night before as people actually notice they're dead and shit and the person is crossed off the list of citizens around (60 total I heard) which is rather neat. Killing people will reduce the health of the district which causes more misery and chaos (and raised prices) whereas healing raises it and causes the people to turn more healthy (better blood quality) and presumably they're happier for it what with the lack of feral Vampires and whatnot roaming the streets. I assume the merchants also lower their prices, judging by how they raise it if it's chaotic. I wonder if people can die at the hands of NPCS? Thoughts to consider.

26 mins in - Seems Vampire Hunters can also roam around. Unsure what decides how and when they do of yet, but they don't seem much more of a threat than the feral Vampires are.

33 mins in - The dialogue seem more fluent the more I watch. Maybe that earlier thing was an exception; I do hope so.

38 mins in - I like how there are dialogue options that can only be unlocked by finding hints throughout the place, really encouraging the investigation aspect of the game.

40 mins in - "There's no turning back, you have to deal with the consequences." I wonder how much this applies in regards to save scumming, but I like the notion.

42 mins in - They mentioned something about a competition to win a Vampyr-themed X-Box One and showed it off a little, not bothering listening to the details much; go look in the vid or their social media if interested.

47 mins in - Boss fight showed up, the healthbars are annoying in terms of layout imo. Much too big. You apparently can't avoid this one either, though you can avoid combat on other fronts apparently.

53 mins in - Ending with a trailer. Couldn't listen for long before the lyrical music ruined it.

All in all I like the atmosphere and think the game has potential based on what I see. I will probably pick it up at some point or another. Maybe wait and see if Summer Sale makes the price tag a bit more merciful.

Very likely, considering the popularity of said myth. But not necessarily.

Triune female figures are actually quite common in mythology, and they follow a similar pattern. The Greek have the Fates ou Moirai, + the Muses (sometimes seen as three instead of the usual 9), + the Erinyes/Furies; + the Gorgons, etc. The goddess Hecate is very specifically shown as being a triple deity.

Celts have Morrigan who is also a triple female deity.

George RRRRRRRRR Martin made a pretty good synthesis of it all on the "Faith of the Seven": Maiden, Mother, Crone.

I think it's the latter rather than the former. The triple goddess is a staple in so many myths because the woman's stages of life would not change regardless of the place and culture she was born in.

In most human post-tribal societies up until the modern era, the woman's job was essencially the same: save yourself for a good husband (Maiden), Have plenty of children, protect and nurture them (Mother); serve as a wise-woman for your community, specially for the women and children (Crone). This would not change based on the woman's social status either.

The men's job, however, would be varied depending on his job and position in society. He could be a laborer, a farmer, a merchant, a craftsmen, a soldier, a general, a king, often two or more. And every culture would have diffferent idealizations of said works.

That sounds plausible.

So, the first review of Vampyr says:
pros: story, feel, graphics, difficult decisions.
cons: action part, dynamic difficulty.
The adventure part is good, fucked up by artificial action part. 70%.

Well, however not suberb, Bloodlines' graphics are not a rape through the eyes yet...

I don't think they ever will be considered that horrible. They aren't cutting edge anymore, but they aged well.



Though personally I avoid getting brainwashed by being a rural hermit.

That is why I don't listen to radio and avoid shops ith music... Strangely, even if I hear a s*it song for a 100th time, it is still mearly annoing to me. You see Draggy, you could be a hermit in a big city.

I don't know how I feel about this video. It does have some good, well made arguments. The dude presenting the arguments also looks like an insufferable little bitch "Oh, me? Being a hermit in a big city is my dream.
