Paths of Enlightenment Empty
PostSubject: Paths of Enlightenment   Paths of Enlightenment EmptyFri Aug 06, 2010 10:54 am

Are there any plans (or is it even possible) to offer alternatives to Humanity? The Sabbat, and certain other Kindred in the old PnP game, followed alternative philosophies called "Paths of Enlightenment".

They had different moral codes,. For instance, whilst a Vampire following the Path of Honourable Accord cannot go on a killing spree, it's perfectly acceptable to kill kine for his/her own survival and not lose path ("humanity") points. However, if that same Vampire breaks his or her word to another or shows cowardice in the face of danger, points are lost.

Also, on a slightly related note, is it possible to have a heirarchy of sins for Humanity and/or the Paths? I mean, for instance, if a character with 8 or 9 Humanity kills their prey whilst feeding, he/she loses Humanity, but if another Vampire with only 2 or 3 points does the same thing it doesn't affect them at all?

Has to be coded for each instance one could lose or gain humanity.

As for other paths, not sure. It would take a lot of coding if it was possible, but I'm not entirely sure it even is.

Also in pnp not all Sabbat are on paths, especially new embraces. There's also the need to be trained on a path and the game is about a week long timescale Laughing

On a different storyline or timescale it would be a very interesting thing if it could be implemented, but not sure the bloodlines story as-is could accomidate it Crying or Very sad

Fair enough, though I would point out that it's quite possible to max out a couple of disciplines in that same week-long timescale, something that in pnp would take many, many game sessions and months (or more likely decades) of game-time.

I just rather liked the notion that you yourself as the player would actually have to think harder about decisions and where they fit into your chosen Path

I very rarely put fives in anything while playing, just feels so WRONG.

Then again everything starts off really low as well...

paths would be cool, but I'm trying to think how much would be involved... there'd be all the dialogues that could affect a different path, then there's tying a different path to the humanity bar on the character screen, making sure any path changes only affect you if you're on a specific path, killing innocents would have to change from taking away from humanity depending on path as well.

Some conversations where you could frenzy could lead to a drop in path if you try to resist it, but there's no willpower, courage, instinct/self control or conscience/conviction in the game so driving the paths might be harder... hmm.

As far as I know it's too difficult to rearrange the character sheet (I'd probably try adding the missing abilities otherwise, lol)

Ah, well. Thanks for giving it some consideration. I'm afraid my programming skills/knowledge are comparable to my ability to drink paint thinner: it's something I could probably have a go at, but I don't think the results would please anyone.
