PostSubject: Forced walk in Ocean House   Sun May 12, 2013 12:48 am

I'm currently stuck on the Ocean House level (playing CE final version). Whenever I reach a "suspenseful" sequence, my character is forced to walk at a snail's pace, and becomes incapable of jumping... the problem is, this new feature doesn't turn off after I go through the kitchen, even if I walk out into the kitchen and back in again, or restart from an earlier save and try the whole kitchen sequence again.

No jumping means I can't climb into the ventilation shaft. No climbing into the ventilation shaft stops me from progressing any further without cheating. Noclipping out of the room doesn't return my movement status to normal, which makes other areas (like *ahem* the elevator shaft) a lot more lethal. pale Is there some way to turn this "forced walk" feature off manually, either via console or by changing game files, so I can continue my game?

Sorry, I have no idea what has caused this behaviour. I don't usually run around there, so I have never encountered something like you described, and can't even tell you if it's a general bug or something that happens on your system only.

Well I managed to get jumping back on. Apparently my controls got reset to default somehow, so it "forgot" that Shift was supposed to be jump. The "forced walk" is still a problem, and seems to switch on almost at random, eg. it also happened when leaving Gallery Noir, if I crawl into the garage, two out of three times I'll be forced to walk when I stand up again... but it isn't related to the jumping thing.

If you set SHIFT for jump, that's probably the cause of your troubles. By default CE uses the SHIFT key for the walk/run toggle, and ALT for auto-walk.
So if you need SHIFT or ALT for something else you have to edit autoexec.cfg. The file is located in -bloodlines\vampire\cfg\ and you it is a plain textfile, so you can edit it with notepad or any other text-editor you prefer. Look for "alias" and "bind" commands and replace SHIFT and/or ALT with the names for the keys you prefer. Look into the bind section in config.cfg to get the idea how to access any key you like. Be careful though. No matter where you are located and what kind of keyboard you use, the game thinks you have the english layout (qwerty).

Wow, that explains a lot. Laughing

I changed jump from Spacebar to Shift because I'm left-handed; I need my left hand on the mouse, and my right pinky finger just can't bend quite far enough down to reach the spacebar. Being able to change the default is great advice... thanks so much! I have a QWERTY keyboard so I shouldn't have any problems there.

Just for your info, you can also change the bind commands in config.cfg manually. Being left handed, you might consider a setup similar to mine: the arrow keys for move forward, backward, and strafe, INS for toggle camera, DEL for jump, END for use, PageDown for crouch, and the hotkeys at their usual places and on the number keys of the NUM-Block.

No, the only devil the game really hates is called Activision. I know this because I have seen some of the comments the programmers left behind...
