Mature, Flexible Roleplaying Empty
PostSubject: Mature, Flexible Roleplaying   Mature, Flexible Roleplaying EmptyThu Sep 05, 2013 1:01 pm

Hey everyone, long time no see.

I've been really wanting to get into a Vampire roleplay lately, but I haven't really had a good opportunity for quality roleplaying. I started a Vampire Masquiem roleplay on the Nexus forums a long time ago (which kind of got messy in the bloodlines) but I got too busy with offline life to tend to it so it died. A new Vampire roleplay has come up on there but it's just not what I'm looking for at the moment. I've also had a bit of character development conflicts with other people, so I just really want to find a place that's much more mature in tone and much more flexible and, most importantly, understands different types of characters.

So, I'm asking you all, which know the setting very well. Are there any active Vampire roleplays up right now on here or anywhere else you frequent?

The things I'd like to be able to do are: finally play as my Lhiannan character, who I've developed so much for; play in a very mature setting; be able to play a various amount of characters on different power levels.

Thanks for taking the time to read this everyone Smile

hello Smile

The RP currently on this forums is active Smile You would be best off speaking to out ST Claudia if you would like more details because she does have some rules and the like.

When you say Mature in tone what exactly are you looking for?

Hi!

I will definitely be sure to talk to Claudia then Smile

When I say "more mature", I'm referring to an actual dark tone to the game and having a mature look on ideas/characters.

I recently had a bad experience when I proposed a supporting character who was a Tzimisce Bahari cultist who would inflict pain upon himself so that he could achieve the wisdom he sought (which is what the Bahari do). He was also gang raped in the past (he was from Byzantium and sired by The Dracon) and was sold into prostituion as a young boy. This was a critical event in his life that led him to become a Bahari cultist.

Apparently, some members of the group didn't like this history of my character and said that I would be better off not using this character. One person even said that they would appreciate it if I woulnd't submit character sheets like that again.

Depends on the setting. If the game is set in that time period, I can see it. However, if the game is set in the modern era (like Claudia's), then your Tzimisce Bahari cultist would have a hard time operating in modern Bordeaux, France. (The setting for this forum's game.)

Claudia has a few NPC roles that can be taken over by players, or a player could start a new character. She is definitely the one to speak with, about the kind of role you would like to play. You and she can decide whether this game is a good fit for you.

PostSubject: Re: Mature, Flexible Roleplaying   Mature, Flexible Roleplaying EmptyThu Sep 05, 2013 5:21 pm

I was sure we talked about it some time ago, but you never gave me any news Oo

I'm also taking the opportunity to speak about what I expect from the game as a ST, things I allow, things I don't allow...

No uber speshul characters. Bloodlines are scarce for a reason, and I do not consider them to be "playable" in my campaigns*.
We're not playing Scion, nor Exalted, nor Anima. We're a bit closer to Shadowrun. All characters have a little special something if they weren't they wouldn't have been embraced (or be Runners).
But I generally disapprove of "unlikely to happen" type of characters. I don't mind very dark past as humans, I don't mind prostitution, rape, bad divorces, or even worse, happy marriages, because those things are part of life.
But speshul powers of bloodlines ? Please, just having Auspex 2, or Presence 1 is overpowered ! You just need to learn how to use them.

I think the most special thing I'm using is the fact that one character was a Mage before being embraced (that would be the old Tremere Regent, and he's not "acting" on the city.. at least not openly). And yes, a Lasombra NPC who said he was Ventrue before coming back and raiding the city in a (very classical and basic) Sabbat attack.
I don't believe in using all the books (4/5 of them should burn though). I believe in the general ambiance, the general feeling of "wth". But the PCs are the protagonists, and as such, I try and avoid long NPC discussions to each other. It's no fun.

*It's not a RP, it's a campaign. Like, an actual, true campaign, with a "story" behind it. Even if I'm just pulling the strings : there are no quest givers, there are no epic quests, there are no characters with tons of dots everywhere, speshul disciplines and what not... It's contemporary, dark and urban, with a hint of Europeanism (general mystical behavior in Europe, older kindred, stronger traditions, more oppression... and of course, racism, sexism, xenophobia, royalism, nazism, which is far more present here than in the US, and in the US cities).
Give your old Ventrue enough background points in Influences, and you're all set.

Why Bahari ? Why not "priest embraced against his will who tries to purge himself" ? (FYI the character exists) You don't need speshul status, just put in a little faith and own it, instead of hearing "oh, you took the flaw ?" (this actually happened). I don't consider VTM as "a shopping center for mini-maxers". I usually allow flaws and merits, but they need to be related, interesting, and of course, integrated fully into the persona.

See, for example, your Tzimisce has a few issues for me : why was he embraced ? why would he "be with other characters" ? I mean, it's still a group game. If it's for mental masturbation about a super character like Sam Haight, write a fanfic, do idle RP on IRC... but honestly, it's not a character that has any logical reason to be a PC. A NPC, maybe...

About your Lhiannan.. Well, obviously in a modern setting, it's not going to happen. Why want "speshul bloodline" instead of just playing an interesting Gangrel ? Why go for the fancy shiny thing instead of using the best, basic, solid tools you can have ?
Hell, why not even go for a shamanic Tremere ? Or even a guy embraced by a Toreador New-Age because he believed in the Power of Nature ? THAT's original and interesting.

You don't need Bahari, you don't need infernalism, you don't need obeah, or valeren, or spiritus.

The real shit is far more scarier.

PostSubject: Re: Mature, Flexible Roleplaying   Mature, Flexible Roleplaying EmptyThu Sep 05, 2013 9:06 pm

And the above is why I like this game.

I learned long ago that you don't need super-awesome, tricked-out characters to have a fun game. It's more fun playing a character with a few flaws, who is not super-powerful (although they might have a trick or two up their sleeves). This causes the players to rely more on teamwork and strategy than a more powerful character would do.

However, it is nice that my character in Claudia's game has no Flaws. Oh, some people like to talk about the Brujah temper being a quote-'flaw'-unquote, but these are merely lies and rumors spread by those who have reason to fear our gift for spotting bullshit. Should a lack of patience for hypocrisy be classified as a flaw? I don't think so either.

I also quite like the fact that your actions have genuine consequences for your character because you aren't bullet proof. It makes you have to think and consider the actions you take ahead of time and the ramifications it could have.

I don't really like unlikely to happen characters either. However, I have tried playing "just another face in the crowd" characters as well, but it severely lacked in that special spark for me. Now, I don't play "unlikely to happen" characters either, who seem to already have what they are going to be set for them. Instead, I like characters who are special enough to be interesting but who also aren't so special that their destiny is decided once they are embraced.

Claudia, I think you and I should agree to disagree about bloodlines Laughing I've never really thought of having some disciplines as being overpowered, however.

I actually like a lot of the books. Anything that was reprinted in v20 is canon to me as well as any lore changes in any of the v20 books. The other books that I like are the Clan books, the Book of Nod, and Revelations of the Dark Mother. The guide to the sects are pretty nice too.

And this is one of the reasons why I love more mature settings. Not because I support any of these institutions, but because they add more depth. I can't stand it when people make "utopian" Kindred characters who extol the player's virtues. Now, I'm someone who does put a bit of myself in my characters, but I don't want them to be a living symbol of my beliefs. (I even have some friends who fall into some of the aforementioned institutions).

The reason why I chose a Bahari was because I was fascinated by their idea and theme. It's not "speshul", it's the idea and theme that captures my mind and it makes me want to explore it.

When I read Revelations of the Dark Mother and the Fair is Foul scenario for Gehenna, I was fascinated by Lilith and her followers.

That's kind of what he was. Characters that I had in mind were Sascha Vykos and Beckett. The people I was RPing with couldn't seem to comprehend an NPC, background type character so I just stopped bothering with them.

Well, v20 pretty much says that the bloodline has returned, though in a much more ambiguous sort of way. But I understand if you don't want to use them in yours.

Again about the "speshul" thing. I have always been fascinated by my British ancestry and the mystical traditions of the ancient Britons as well as their religion. The Lhiannans are this and that's one reason why I'm in love with them (and thankfully, v20 got rid of that matriarchy crap). The other reason is because of their creation story, their Crone. I have my own stories about how they are a clan (the British Isles supplement for Dark Ages suggest it too) and how they have returned to the modern nights though. Trust me, it's not a cliché type of story (I hate those) and so I'm still working on it.

Perhaps in your opinion, but I can work with you for a character in your RP Smile

In your campaign anyway.
It's repeatedly stated that any ST can make whatever of WoD, not to mention the tremendous amount of inconsistency within the universe were every party believe themselves to be in the right.

Stay humble.

Vykos and Beckett aren't examples for PCs, or properly made characters with a logical concept (by that I mean a credible psychological personality), it's just the delusions of authors who knew about nothing of history, psychology... They just got wet dreams upon reading Anne Rice's stuff and said "what if.." and that's how the unstable, patchy, non-euclidean VTM was born. It's been built upon for years, but it's still a little dodgy. Hence why Requiem is far superior. (But Masquerade has an unique soul, although each ST must make drastic cuts through it...

Which makes each WoD different Wink As you say, Kara, each ST appropriates the setting to his own, which makes it so complicated after to be a player on other ST's table.. Kara, btw, "I'm right, deal with it" plus a wink means I'm having a lul :p

A piece of our chat conversation Smile

[22:28:46 05/09/13] Karavolos : Just saying
[22:28:47 05/09/13] Toreador : Mainly, I hate gender exclusive races/classes/etc
[22:29:16 05/09/13] @ Claudia : then why go for a fancy bloodline ?
[22:29:26 05/09/13] @ Claudia : why not an interesting soft voiced Nossie ?
[22:29:38 05/09/13] Toreador : Well, I always like the Daughters/Sons of Cacophony.
[22:29:46 05/09/13] Toreador : A...Nosferatu?
[22:29:48 05/09/13] Karavolos : Or make your name proud and be a singing Torrie
[22:30:01 05/09/13] @ Claudia : well yeah. sexy voices for nossies are an awesome concept.
[22:30:04 05/09/13] Karavolos : And like
[22:30:06 05/09/13] Toreador : But my heart will always belong to the Lhiannan <3
[22:30:13 05/09/13] Karavolos : Try to balance songs with Presence or something
[22:30:15 05/09/13] Toreador : It is quite interesting, I must say.
[22:30:20 05/09/13] Karavolos : Oh dear
[22:30:22 05/09/13] Karavolos : I imagine like
[22:30:29 05/09/13] Karavolos : Phone sex with a Nossie on the other line
[22:30:36 05/09/13] Toreador : HAHAHAHA
[22:30:39 05/09/13] @ Claudia : drop the fancy, drop the shiny, take the 7 clans of the camarilla (okay, 6 plus one), and think of a good character. THEN think about "why was he embraced" ?
[22:30:48 05/09/13] Dragatus : @Kara Very Happy
[22:31:08 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Dude, Mr Pierre is all about phone conversation Wink he doesn't have the merit, but still
[22:31:20 05/09/13] Karavolos : Or if it suits you
[22:31:30 05/09/13] Toreador : They don't seem any more fancy than the general clans :/
[22:31:37 05/09/13] Karavolos : You can try to run a Giovanni/Setite who wants to do something important in Bordeaux
[22:31:46 05/09/13] Karavolos : If Claudia is for it
[22:31:48 05/09/13] @ Claudia : okay, think about it in gae.
[22:31:54 05/09/13] @ Claudia : in game)
[22:32:16 05/09/13] @ Claudia : you're a human with a "little something" that just MIGHT attract kindred attention
[22:33:08 05/09/13] Karavolos : Alternately
[22:33:09 05/09/13] @ Claudia : and not just "interesting..." kindred attention. And not even "maybe he could serve me" kindred attention. Like, the real "at first sight" attention, the kind of attention that just might get the kindred into the hassle of boot-licking to get an Embrace right.
[22:33:11 05/09/13] Karavolos : You can
[22:33:18 05/09/13] Karavolos : Describe the sort of character you wanna play
[22:33:24 05/09/13] Karavolos : And Claudia can hand over a character
[22:33:26 05/09/13] Toreador : Well, in my WoD, the bloodlines are a bit more common than what other people generally think of.
[22:33:50 05/09/13] @ Claudia : your wod is about epicness and moar speshuuul. it's not the WoD.
[22:33:59 05/09/13] Toreador : Not really actually.
[22:34:07 05/09/13] Toreador : I play on themes and personal feelings.
[22:34:20 05/09/13] @ Claudia : then drop the fancy.
[22:34:22 05/09/13] @ Claudia : you don't need fancy
[22:34:26 05/09/13] Toreador : I actually detest all of that kind of stuff.
[22:34:26 05/09/13] @ Claudia : hell you don't need kindred !
[22:34:49 05/09/13] Toreador : Well, like I said, they aren't really all that special to me, at least in the way you're describing it.
[22:35:00 05/09/13] @ Claudia : okay, so, think about it. your human is interesting enough to get kindred attention to actually be a candidate for the embrace. Do the math, now.
[22:35:31 05/09/13] Toreador : Well, why would White Wolf make bloodlines then?
[22:35:40 05/09/13] Dragatus : The way I understand it is that bloodlines are intended to be rare and player characters ar eintended to be plausible.
[22:35:44 05/09/13] @ Claudia : There are 70 000 Kindred in the world, in the Americas, Europe, and "the western world" in general, as well as a couple of cities like Hong kong.
[22:35:54 05/09/13] @ Claudia : because WW made LOTS of shit.
[22:36:35 05/09/13] @ Claudia : what are the probabilities that the kindred attention you drawn was by a kindred which belongs to... 3% of those 70 000 kindred ?
[22:36:46 05/09/13] Toreador : I don't like the tons of splat that they put out, but I do like the bloodlines present in v20.
[22:36:49 05/09/13] Dragatus : RPG companies make money by making books and they need money to stay in business so they put out a crap load of books.
[22:36:50 05/09/13] Karavolos : Claudia
[22:37:15 05/09/13] Karavolos : Can I be a Mokolé Samedi with Obtenebration that he learned from his secret Lasombra lover in the Sabbat
[22:37:28 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I'm playing with two independant clans already, and it brings enough spice to a properlly made setting.
[22:37:35 05/09/13] Karavolos : Who is also the childe of the bishop
[22:37:41 05/09/13] @ Claudia : V20 is a compilation of all the shit Revised had pulled off.
[22:37:55 05/09/13] @ Claudia : (and trust me, I've worked for White Wolf, I know my shit
[22:38:16 05/09/13] Toreador : And if you read the British Isles DA book, it actually states that the Lhiannan are a clan.
[22:38:43 05/09/13] @ Claudia : DARK AGES
[22:38:54 05/09/13] @ Claudia : plus the British Isles is a lame supplement
[22:38:58 05/09/13] Toreador : I liked Dark Ages a lot.
[22:39:04 05/09/13] Karavolos : There are also Gehenna books which describe 23 Antediluvians
[22:39:17 05/09/13] Toreador : Meh, I didn't like Gehenna.
[22:39:30 05/09/13] Karavolos : See how it works? What a Face
[22:41:08 05/09/13] Toreador : This is what someone told me about my Tzimisce on Nexus just now:
[22:41:09 05/09/13] Toreador : Look, I don't know anything about the Masquerade universe (Yeah sue me, whatever.) but dark or not, that's one person who is uncomfortable with stuff you're doing in the RP over past experiences, meaning that it brings back memories as opposed to just going out of Tok's comfort zone. And she's also not the only one with a friend that does/used to harm themselves, so it bothers me as well that you'd use it for fun in a RP when people that do so are sometimes suicidal. If you can't be bothered to make the RP fun for everybody, if that's somehow below you (not that you're better than anybody here in the first place.) then you can leave. You're not wanted here. If such turns out to be the case, I won't shed a tear. Heck I'd be glad to see you go. If that's not the case you'll have to prove me wrong.
[22:42:33 05/09/13] Karavolos : So
[22:42:38 05/09/13] Karavolos : They declined your char
[22:42:45 05/09/13] Karavolos : Cuz of a dark backstory?
[22:42:50 05/09/13] Karavolos : Or something
[22:42:54 05/09/13] Toreador : Pretty much.
[22:43:03 05/09/13] Karavolos : People
[22:43:04 05/09/13] Karavolos : Just
[22:43:05 05/09/13] Karavolos : People
[22:43:31 05/09/13] Toreador : You know how someone becomes a Bahari cultist, right?
[22:43:47 05/09/13] Karavolos : Not really, haven't read too much Dark Ages stuff
[22:44:03 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Not relevant anyway
[22:44:29 05/09/13] Toreador : Well, a Bahari is a cultist of Lilith who goes through something HORRIBLE in their life.
[22:44:35 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Nexus can run their game as they want
[22:44:45 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I just don't think your Tzimisce character is RP material
[22:44:52 05/09/13] @ Claudia : he belongs in the Kindred Most Wanted supplement.
[22:45:31 05/09/13] @ Claudia : it's not PC material, dude
[22:46:02 05/09/13] Toreador : I don't know how many times I have to say it, but he was never intended to be a PC.
[22:46:25 05/09/13] @ Claudia : the fact that your character harming itself touches someone close to home and "bothers them" is kinda stupid for a GAME, but it seems like a bunch of pre-teen goths.
[22:46:34 05/09/13] @ Claudia : then do not ask to play it
[22:46:40 05/09/13] @ Claudia : PC = Playable Character.
[22:46:46 05/09/13] @ Claudia : if you create a character to play it, it's a PC.
[22:47:38 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I like dark ages too, to be honest, but I think people wanting to play Dark Ages need a Major in Medieval History to be able to flly comprehend it.
[22:47:58 05/09/13] Toreador : They really should.
[22:48:11 05/09/13] @ Claudia : if it's to play it like one would roleplay in a renaissance fair, then you'd better off playing dungeons, game of thrones or ars magica.
[22:48:17 05/09/13] Dragatus : It sure can't hurt.
[22:48:44 05/09/13] Toreador : D&D.... *shivers*
[22:48:51 05/09/13] @ Claudia : hell I've asked all my PCs to do good research on the city setting I'm using Very Happy
[22:49:11 05/09/13] Karavolos : And we totally did
[22:49:12 05/09/13] Karavolos : >_>
[22:49:14 05/09/13] Karavolos : <_<
[22:49:18 05/09/13] Toreador : I've tried, in vain, over several years to truly get into D&D but I just can't. It's too juvenile. Especially the alignment system.
[22:49:21 05/09/13] Karavolos : They totally did
[22:49:28 05/09/13] Karavolos : Even tho I'm the most streetwise
[22:49:31 05/09/13] Karavolos : I'M LAZY K
[22:49:33 05/09/13] @ Claudia : but do you get the medieval mentality ? do you really get it ? or do you go all like "but I believe women have souls ! and god just might not exist.." totally unbelievable bs
[22:50:00 05/09/13] Toreador : Lol yes, I understand that too.
[22:50:15 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Alignment is awesome, if you get to understand what it "means". (Like Warhammer really Very Happy )
[22:50:25 05/09/13] @ Claudia : then why all the fancy ?
[22:50:41 05/09/13] Toreador : I would expect it to be slightly different in the Cainite society, but younger generations would be closer to the mainstream ideas.
[22:50:42 05/09/13] @ Claudia : why not a gangrel rural catholic priest who recites the bible instead of reading it to his herd ?
[22:51:07 05/09/13] @ Claudia : why not a runaway crusader embraced lasombra to fuck the ventrue's plans ?
[22:51:15 05/09/13] @ Claudia : who the fuck needs lhannians ?
[22:51:27 05/09/13] @ Claudia : the real shit is much more interesting.
[22:51:28 05/09/13] Toreador : That's a great concept too, but I like variety as well. Not unbridled variety, mind you.
[22:51:32 05/09/13] Toreador : I need Lhiannans :p
[22:51:37 05/09/13] Toreador : Razz
[22:51:48 05/09/13] @ Claudia : no you don't
[22:51:58 05/09/13] @ Claudia : if you want sparkles..
[22:52:05 05/09/13] Karavolos : NO
[22:52:06 05/09/13] Toreador : There are very few clans/bloodlines that I can "get into".
[22:52:09 05/09/13] Karavolos : DON'T SAY IT
[22:52:12 05/09/13] Karavolos : MY ONE WE-
[22:52:14 05/09/13] Karavolos : Nevermind
[22:52:18 05/09/13] Karavolos : Don't say it.
[22:52:19 05/09/13] Toreador : I don't want sparkles.
[22:52:19 05/09/13] Karavolos : k
[22:52:21 05/09/13] Karavolos : Neutral
[22:52:21 05/09/13] @ Claudia : why ? it's just a nationality
[22:52:36 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I could make Kara pull off a Malk
[22:52:45 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I could make someone love his ventrue character
[22:53:09 05/09/13] Karavolos : I was terrified of playing malks btw out of fear of becoming a fishmalk
[22:53:26 05/09/13] Karavolos : But thus far Claudia hasn't pointed the mighty index finger at me so I'm doing something right 8D
[22:53:59 05/09/13] Toreador : The ones I like the best are Lhiannans, Malks, D/SoC, Toreador, Tzimisce, and a few others.
[22:54:34 05/09/13] Toreador : I have a hard time enjoying things I'm not interested in.
[22:54:35 05/09/13] Karavolos : Play a Malk or Torrie, you know you want to
[22:54:38 05/09/13] @ Claudia : xD the mighty index finger
[22:54:39 05/09/13] Karavolos : *Plotting*
[22:54:50 05/09/13] @ Claudia : dude, if you like clans because of clans, you're missing the point of a character
[22:55:04 05/09/13] Toreador : I have thought about a Toreador anttitribu..
[22:55:20 05/09/13] @ Claudia : okay, drop it all
[22:55:22 05/09/13] Toreador : It's not quite that either. It's the flavour they bring to the character.
[22:55:24 05/09/13] Dragatus : Hey, Karavolos. Twilight. Razz
[22:55:25 05/09/13] @ Claudia : unplug the brain
[22:55:32 05/09/13] @ Claudia : XD
[22:55:39 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Drag, you could earn a ban dude
[22:55:54 05/09/13] Dragatus : Very Happy
[22:56:25 05/09/13] @ Claudia : no seriously, Torrie, unplug the brain, reset everything, and think of a human. A human wiht a little something itneresting. think of a CHARACTER. THEN let the person evolve slowly, find interesting stuff, do interesting stuff, and "get Kindred attention"
[22:56:46 05/09/13] Karavolos : *Head explodes*
[22:56:59 05/09/13] @ Claudia : and THEN this character will get embraced, by someone you didn't choose, he will become of a clan you didn't choose, because this-is-how-it-happens.
[22:57:11 05/09/13] Toreador : Well, that doesn't rule out bloodlines, but I know what you're saying.
[22:57:18 05/09/13] Toreador : And I understand that too.
[22:57:35 05/09/13] Toreador : I only have, like, two characters I've stuck with for any amount of time.
[22:57:37 05/09/13] @ Claudia : but the character will be interesting, regardless of the clan, because clans are just "a consequence of being kindred#
[22:57:49 05/09/13] @ Claudia : those aren't characters
[22:58:04 05/09/13] Toreador : I'm just afraid that if I do something different with them, I'll lose them.
[22:58:09 05/09/13] @ Claudia : those are mental masturbation, of you playing with all the data that you've been fed, and picking the most shiny
[22:58:16 05/09/13] @ Claudia : drop them, create a new
[22:58:25 05/09/13] Toreador : Well, I've detailed their human lives by heart and led up to why they were embraced.
[22:58:26 05/09/13] @ Claudia : (especially for a urban setting, neither is acceptable)
[22:58:39 05/09/13] @ Claudia : indeed, in "your" WoD
[22:58:44 05/09/13] @ Claudia : you never had a ST, did you ?
[22:59:03 05/09/13] Toreador : Never had the pleasure. Just mostly writing fiction about them.
[22:59:16 05/09/13] @ Claudia : then those aren't characters
[22:59:23 05/09/13] @ Claudia : those are fanfics, and mental masturbation
[22:59:26 05/09/13] @ Claudia : not RP material
[22:59:33 05/09/13] @ Claudia : (fiction is perfectly fine)
[22:59:35 05/09/13] Toreador : They're characters to me.
[22:59:43 05/09/13] @ Claudia : there aren't
[22:59:43 05/09/13] Toreador : Just like anyone else who makes a character for a book or story.
[22:59:55 05/09/13] @ Claudia : not in a set setting...
[23:00:55 05/09/13] Karavolos : Thing about fiction is anyone with a pen can decide everything from circumstances to people's reaction to the characters
[23:01:14 05/09/13] Karavolos : In RP you can't do that, it works as in real life where you gotta work to get people to like/hate/whatever
[23:01:14 05/09/13] Dragatus : I gues sthere's a difference between a book character and a player character. Wink
[23:01:37 05/09/13] Karavolos : Think the scene in Bruce the All-Mighty were he tries to force his ex-girlfriend to love him
[23:01:43 05/09/13] Karavolos : "Free will huh.."
[23:02:06 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I call that mental masturbation or masturbating each other when idling RPing with someone else just "for character development" and "let's see where things go"
[23:02:54 05/09/13] Toreador : Well, I hope that I can find an rp that will truly let me develop my Lhiannan sometime :/
[23:02:55 05/09/13] @ Claudia : If you want to play, like, really Play, you need to think about it the other way around.
[23:03:20 05/09/13] Toreador : I want to "really play" but I need inspiration before I do anything.
[23:04:20 05/09/13] Karavolos : The way it worked for me was I originally wanted to play a Ravnos cuz favorite clan, but then Claudia went all "SHINYSHINY BAD BOY" so I rethinked the char and went spoke about what I'd like
[23:04:32 05/09/13] @ Claudia : https://camarillaedition.darkbb.com/f26-background
[23:04:34 05/09/13] Karavolos : At first I was suggested Dominique cuz I wanted to play a Tremere
[23:04:35 05/09/13] @ Claudia : here, read
[23:04:38 05/09/13] Karavolos : But I felt
[23:04:47 05/09/13] Karavolos : Eeeh his personality doesn't quite suit me
[23:04:54 05/09/13] Dragatus : Maybe make a brand new character for playing? Complete mentalrestart and all that. It should probably make it easier.
[23:05:00 05/09/13] Karavolos : Claudia went sorta
[23:05:04 05/09/13] Karavolos : k so what else
[23:05:09 05/09/13] @ Claudia : and if you want to "develop your lhiannan" like that, dropping it somewhere so it grows, make a fanfic. or go to IRC.
[23:05:15 05/09/13] Karavolos : "Kinda submissive I suppose, more of a follower"
[23:05:28 05/09/13] Karavolos : MEET FRED, YOUR FUTURE SELF >=D
[23:05:30 05/09/13] Toreador : IRC?
[23:05:37 05/09/13] Karavolos : *Evil French Music*
[23:05:42 05/09/13] Toreador : I've seen that a lot and still don't know what it means.
[23:05:43 05/09/13] @ Claudia : XD Fred's awesome.
[23:05:53 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Plus Fred's even more awesome than what you think Very Happy
[23:05:56 05/09/13] @ Claudia : google it.
[23:06:03 05/09/13] Karavolos : Fred is indeed awesome
[23:06:08 05/09/13] Karavolos : I like his character 8D
[23:06:15 05/09/13] @ Claudia : (god how can someone be so internet-uneducated !)
[23:06:27 05/09/13] Karavolos : Ofc the most awesome part about him is how he gets about town on his trusty bike
[23:06:29 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Fred is awesome because Fred is Fred, not because Fred is "Malk"
[23:06:31 05/09/13] Toreador : Internet relay chat?
[23:06:36 05/09/13] Karavolos : There is a picture somewhere if you're interested
[23:06:37 05/09/13] @ Claudia : good job.
[23:06:55 05/09/13] @ Claudia : a character is interesting because of what character he really is, not because of who embraced him and why
[23:07:06 05/09/13] Karavolos : To be fair though
[23:07:18 05/09/13] Karavolos : Fred would be less awesome if Degrelle didn't share some awesomeness with him
[23:07:23 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Claudia is awesome because she shouldn't have been Tremere to begin with. But she got the bad luck to have gotten twice the "kindred attention" I was talking about earlier.
[23:07:24 05/09/13] Karavolos : Degrelle was a cool dude
[23:07:27 05/09/13] Karavolos : <3
[23:07:51 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Lyle's awesome because Lyle's a fucking internet Troll.
[23:08:05 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Gosuin is awesome because Gosuin shouldn't have been Ventrue either.
[23:08:08 05/09/13] Toreador : Well, I can't do Owen (my Lhiannan) any kind of justice in chat, so it would be pointless to try to describe who and what he is.
[23:08:18 05/09/13] Karavolos : (Also ST BF, be ware his death or Gehenna)
[23:08:26 05/09/13] @ Claudia : And Theodore is awesome because Theodore is a kindred with honor
[23:08:53 05/09/13] Dragatus : Now you're making me want to join your RP.
[23:09:25 05/09/13] Karavolos : Claudia
[23:09:27 05/09/13] Karavolos : Talk RP
[23:09:28 05/09/13] Karavolos : Do it
[23:09:29 05/09/13] Karavolos : Nao
[23:09:45 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Dude, the Brujah Primogen be like "hey bro, if we all represented our clan's interests truly, taking all members into account, and the prince would be a referee..."
[23:09:46 05/09/13] Karavolos : Unless
[23:09:48 05/09/13] Karavolos : Draggy
[23:09:54 05/09/13] Toreador : The kind of character I want to play right now is a character who used to have it pretty bad in life but still believed in humanity and the good that can come from it.
[23:09:55 05/09/13] Karavolos : You wanna join the RP /Jedi Mind lulz
[23:10:24 05/09/13] Toreador : But something horrible happened which set off a serious of other horrible events to twist his belief upon itself and make him sadistic and hateful and resentful of humanity.
[23:10:45 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I do have a coupld of playable NPCs that could fit this concept.
[23:11:22 05/09/13] @ Claudia : the second part is a little too far fetched, but doable nonetheless
[23:11:23 05/09/13] Dragatus : Well ,the desire to join the RP has been present for a long time. It's just that my desire to avoid work has always been greater.
[23:11:25 05/09/13] Karavolos : *VtM politics* http://www.twogag.com/archives/3009
[23:11:37 05/09/13] Karavolos : Eh, trust me Draggy
[23:11:39 05/09/13] Karavolos : Not that much work
[23:11:42 05/09/13] Karavolos : And you can always
[23:11:46 05/09/13] Karavolos : Hop out if you disagree
[23:12:29 05/09/13] Dragatus : Cool comic. Very Happy
[23:12:44 05/09/13] Karavolos : Great comic Very Happy
[23:12:57 05/09/13] @ Claudia : blah the work I try to keep it "check the maps" and "understand general politics" as well as "basic geography" but I'm not going to get you guys too much into mortal politics
[23:12:59 05/09/13] Karavolos : Lotsa lulz to be had
[23:13:06 05/09/13] Toreador : I'm just finding it so ironic that a person who made a comic relief character for that WoD game is telling me off.
[23:13:12 05/09/13] @ Claudia : and yeah lul ocmic
[23:13:22 05/09/13] Karavolos : But Claudia
[23:13:29 05/09/13] @ Claudia : blah it's their shit
[23:13:41 05/09/13] Karavolos : Fred should obviously be a powerful elder with control of the french fast food chains
[23:13:47 05/09/13] Karavolos : Also secret Setite
[23:13:50 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I'll gladly welcome as much players as it can be humanly handled.
[23:13:51 05/09/13] Toreador : Yeah, I'll leave it to them. It'd probably be better for the both of us.
[23:13:52 05/09/13] Dragatus : by politics you mean French politics or Kindred politics?
[23:13:54 05/09/13] @ Claudia : xD
[23:13:56 05/09/13] Karavolos : (Still have a bike and skirt though)
[23:14:00 05/09/13] @ Claudia : french politics
[23:14:05 05/09/13] @ Claudia : kindred politics are out to get you anyway
[23:14:19 05/09/13] Toreador : I'll never understand French politics.
[23:15:04 05/09/13] @ Claudia : (by "understanding french politics" I just mean for you guys to get the socialist, the conservative right, the liberals, the communists and the green parties.. as well as the strike-related gimmick, urbanization, propriety being important..9
[23:15:19 05/09/13] @ Claudia : dude, easier than belgian
[23:15:49 05/09/13] @ Claudia : it also includes knowing that everything is closed on sunday, that labor laws are anti business (except huge ones)...
[23:16:05 05/09/13] @ Claudia : that bordeaux has a huuuuge wine-related economy, DUH.
[23:16:28 05/09/13] Dragatus : Slvoenian politics are fairly simple. You have a bunch of aprties divided into two main camps that have their roots in the Yugoslavian civil war that happened during WW2.
[23:16:33 05/09/13] @ Claudia : knowing the French revolution is kinda indispensable too.
[23:16:34 05/09/13] Dragatus : And they're al larseholes.
[23:16:35 05/09/13] Toreador : One thing I don't get is the "La manif pour tous".
[23:16:38 05/09/13] Dragatus : Hello Eye.
[23:16:54 05/09/13] @ Claudia : La manif pour tous = Pro-Lifers
[23:17:02 05/09/13] eye of the divine : hey o/
[23:17:06 05/09/13] @ Claudia : yeah, Drag, it's fairly easy Very Happy
[23:17:08 05/09/13] Toreador : Didn't they all vote Hollande in knowing that his stance towards same sex marriage and adoption was one of his big themes?
[23:17:27 05/09/13] @ Claudia : no, Manif Pour Tous all voted far right
[23:17:41 05/09/13] @ Claudia : (they are all upper middle class white bitches)
[23:17:54 05/09/13] Toreador : Aha, I see.
[23:18:13 05/09/13] Toreador : What do you think of Marine Le (La?) Pen?
[23:18:17 05/09/13] @ Claudia : easy, right ?
[23:18:20 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Le)
[23:18:53 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Marine Le Pen is.. I think she's smarter than her dad (which is an issue), but she's a populist nationalist bitch.
[23:19:14 05/09/13] Toreador : I have a lot of friends who like her.
[23:19:25 05/09/13] @ Claudia : She's Berlusconi, without the huge corporate money.
[23:19:48 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Which country are you from ? Very Happy
[23:19:52 05/09/13] Toreador : There are things that I like and don't like that she does.
[23:19:59 05/09/13] eye of the divine : but she has the swinger parties?
[23:20:04 05/09/13] Toreador : The US, but don't make assumptions Wink
[23:20:22 05/09/13] Karavolos : http://www.twogag.com/archives/2660
[23:20:28 05/09/13] Toreador : Though most assumptions about the US are bound to be correct for most.
[23:20:33 05/09/13] Karavolos : Random comic cuz lulz, gonna stop linking shit now
[23:20:41 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Marine Le Pen is Sarah Palin

[23:21:35 05/09/13] eye of the divine : oh...nutty bitch okay
[23:22:00 05/09/13] Toreador : I wouldn't really consider them nutty.
[23:22:04 05/09/13] eye of the divine : swinger parties are like parties where people go and have sex
[23:22:16 05/09/13] @ Claudia : XD
[23:22:25 05/09/13] @ Claudia : no, that was Dominique Strauss Khan
[23:22:33 05/09/13] eye of the divine : sarah palin is insane

[23:23:23 05/09/13] @ Claudia : but yeah XD
[23:24:42 05/09/13] @ Claudia : The issue with nationalism in France is that it just doesn't work : EU doesn't make it, as well as the fact that we are a fucking country in the middle of shitloads of countries, with whitloads of immigrants from our ex colonies (and current colonies) and people must go througn France to get everywhere. There is no such thing as "the French race" shit Jean-Marie Le Pen said
[23:24:48 05/09/13] Toreador : Well, recently I saw a debate on Fox News (my grandparents were watching it) where some Republicans wanted to get rid of health insurance in the workplace.
[23:25:16 05/09/13] Toreador : Not a French race but a French ethnic group.
[23:25:23 05/09/13] @ Claudia : nope
[23:25:30 05/09/13] @ Claudia : no french ethnic group either
[23:25:44 05/09/13] Toreador : Then what is France?
[23:25:49 05/09/13] @ Claudia : we're roman, italian, arab, frank, celts, german, vikings...
[23:26:02 05/09/13] eye of the divine : saxon
[23:26:05 05/09/13] Karavolos : Vikings \o/
[23:26:10 05/09/13] Toreador : That's ancient past. What the French are today.
[23:26:20 05/09/13] eye of the divine : a medley
[23:26:25 05/09/13] Toreador : Celts /o/
[23:26:26 05/09/13] eye of the divine : like everyone else
[23:26:38 05/09/13] @ Claudia : dude, we kept fucking and breeding, there's no french ethnic group
[23:26:45 05/09/13] eye of the divine : lol
[23:27:01 05/09/13] eye of the divine : isn't that the human condition? we kepp fucking
[23:27:01 05/09/13] Karavolos : I blame the "french is sexy" rule
[23:27:02 05/09/13] Toreador : I'm not quite versed on the French history, but there's a common culture in most of France.
[23:27:06 05/09/13] eye of the divine : *keep
[23:27:21 05/09/13] Karavolos : Anyway
[23:27:26 05/09/13] Toreador : Besides, anthropology kind of proves a lot of that stuff anyway.
[23:27:27 05/09/13] Karavolos : I gotta get up tomorrow
[23:27:29 05/09/13] Karavolos : So ima
[23:27:34 05/09/13] Karavolos : Abandon you all
[23:27:36 05/09/13] @ Claudia : no, there's no common cultutrer
[23:27:40 05/09/13] Karavolos : Cya 8D
[23:27:42 05/09/13] eye of the divine : night Kara o/
[23:27:48 05/09/13] @ Claudia : we have common institutions, but I eat duck, but Parisians don't
[23:28:00 05/09/13] Toreador : Well that's regional differences.
[23:28:26 05/09/13] @ Claudia : well.. I'm disprooving anthropology thingie
[23:28:48 05/09/13] @ Claudia : my grand parents eat horse
[23:29:09 05/09/13] Toreador : So did a lot of Europeans recently Wink

[23:33:01 05/09/13] @ Claudia : agreed. People even said we should give the compromised content to the poor but I think it was decided against it because it was too despising the poor.

[23:35:34 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I see no "ethnic French"
[23:36:01 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I never turn it either, but I don't eat frozen-ready meals anyway so I was like "sure thing, horse, but not concerned"
[23:36:02 05/09/13] eye of the divine : i just see people
[23:36:37 05/09/13] @ Claudia : they all have the same ID card as me, and most of them aren't second hand immigrants ;-)
[23:36:46 05/09/13] eye of the divine : actually yeah if it was a ready meal i would. It's death on a tray

[23:37:19 05/09/13] @ Claudia : the horse scandal was for frozen ready meals, like lasagna and stuff.
[23:37:33 05/09/13] eye of the divine : oh
[23:37:55 05/09/13] eye of the divine : i'd just be like give it to me in steak form and i will be happy
[23:38:01 05/09/13] @ Claudia : So yeah, torrie, if you want to play with us, you can, but I'm actually running a game, not "idling RP for character development and mental masturbation". Fanfics are there for that, you don't need me Very Happy
[23:38:44 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I buy my steak freshly done by the butcher, i'ts not much more expensive and once cooked, it doesn't lose all the water and grease making it 3x times smaller Sad
[23:38:52 05/09/13] @ Claudia : (plus, it's better for Lyle's diabetes)
[23:39:00 05/09/13] Toreador : lol okay Razz
[23:39:20 05/09/13] @ Claudia : https://camarillaedition.darkbb.com/f26-background
[23:39:21 05/09/13] Toreador : Do you allow antitribu in your campaign?
[23:39:24 05/09/13] @ Claudia : read all of these
[23:39:34 05/09/13] Toreador : Okay.
[23:39:36 05/09/13] @ Claudia : read the background section first Smile
[23:39:39 05/09/13] eye of the divine : i imagine it is less sugar
[23:39:54 05/09/13] eye of the divine : anyway gotta run laters xxx
[23:41:29 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I run a Camarilla, urban, European, tensed city caught between the sabbat, the anarch, and the Toreador Hegemony of Paris' Prince Smile
[23:43:13 05/09/13] @ Claudia : it's the city with most opportunity for newly embraced kindred (mostly locally embraced though). it allows a wider rage for action because of the general tensions, and everything could happen (turn anarch, turn sabbat, go kiss the toreador Francois Villon's boots...
[23:46:52 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Right now for NPCs, I've got a few open characters ready to be embodied by someone : playing a NPC means that I'll give you their detailed background as well as general behavior to certain topics, then you'll be free to embody the character as long as you respect their general agenda (what they wish to see happen, who they like and dislike, of course, everything could change Very Happy)
[23:51:35 05/09/13] @ Claudia : I'm off to bed, got lots of work tomorrow Wink
[23:51:41 05/09/13] @ Claudia : if you have any questions, email me
[23:54:04 05/09/13] Toreador : Okay, good night. Razz
[23:54:11 05/09/13] @ Claudia : Wink
[00:11:38 06/09/13] Dragatus : Hmmm.
[17:14:31 06/09/13] Toreador : Derp.
[17:21:21 06/09/13] Toreador : Le derp?
[20:13:49 06/09/13] @ Claudia : hey people
[20:55:32 06/09/13] Dragatus : Hey.
[20:55:48 06/09/13] Dragatus : Dammit, forgot my color. >Sad

Ahhh I now understand the conversation I stumbled into xD.

I think you also need to understand that your character wouldn't last very long in this setting. Think about it, within the first night they'd be dragged off to meet a sunrise if they're feeling kind.

I have an Old Clan Tzimisce character but she isn't in this RP because I know now that she would be carted off by the Tremere in one night because of her Clan. Even though she doesn't hold the grudges of her Sire she knows they would not be merciful because Kindred are paranoid. Myself and Claudia had an amazing discussion about this because I'm in the process of writing up a fiction on her.

Maybe take some characteristics of your character you like and tweak, you never know you may find someone in the background section you like, if not then work with Claudia and she will do a great job helping you if you work with her, I was a pain in the arse when making my character but she stuck with me and explained why I couldn't or could have things. She's good at her ST roll and it is very emersive because it is very relatable.

The issue I had with Toreador over the chatbox, is that 'Murican feeling to "fit boxes". You couldn't get over the idea of playing a character whose clan isn't your prefered one. Think of a human, then embrace it in an interesting and awesome way. The character isn't just her clan Smile

I have to agree with Claudia here, my character Nyx could have quite easily been embraced by a Malkavian or a Tremere clan member but Nossies got there first so she ended up there. She can't control that and she has explored it in a journal but as she said shit happens xD.

I wish I'd been part of that chat now.  But I might have given away too much about my character so maybe it's best that I wasn't there.

I also liked Kara's mention of a 'Secret Setite', but it made me think of something totally different than what he was talking about.

I think we should do Secret Setite every Christmas: pick names from a hat, and whoever you get, you try to corrupt/degrade that person.  LOL

(For those who don't get it, 'Secret Santa' is the practice of picking names from a hat, and giving a Christmas present to that person.  It's cheaper than buying a gift for everyone you know, especially for a large group, such as an office.  But Kara's 'Secret Setite' sparked a chain of thought in my head, and the above idea is what popped into my brain.)
