Mature, Flexible Roleplaying - Page 3 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Mature, Flexible Roleplaying   Mature, Flexible Roleplaying - Page 3 EmptyMon Nov 18, 2013 12:11 pm

Okay, I'm in between classes, and in between assignments. zoo, you're awesome, that's a given, and the whole forum is certainly glad to see you back (go test CE1.6, final version ! Very Happy)
About the RP, we're now on Sunday Night (we started on Wednesday night if you recall). Lots of things have passed, and I've controlled Victor and made him take certain actions in the meantime. As you know, this is a campaign, it's not really idle RP and hinting at secrets every other minute Smile

But before I can tell you all about him, I need something from you ;

The main issue I had with you as a player is that you were very unclear with your choices ; the narrative part of your post must be very understandable : they're actions, visible emotions, mouvements, positions and body language. Victor also speaks with a certain education (as he is, after all, a socialized and "sane" Malkavian.. or Ventrue ? Very Happy). All kindred are crazy, that's a given, but your posts don't need to reflect it. It's always about the little things... I think your prose is very interesting, but English is only my third language (and a few others do not have English as a native language either, I mean, look at duncan, he speaks MURICAN, no wonder he doesn't understand shit XD).
So in order to be able to run the game smoothly, do you think you can dumb down a little your language and your thoughts? I'd rather not have to think over five times every single post that you make in order to understand what you want Victor to do, think, act and feel.. I'd love to insert him again as a PC into the story (because he has all the reasons to act and team up here and there).

dearest Claudia, the internet told me that the human intestine is around 7 meters long when unraveled. I can write more simply but, this would mean much longer posts. This is a challenge I am happy to meet.

A little less poetry.. And more "to the point" Smile

Of course when Victor will talk, sure, he can word things in a very interesting and educated way, but I need you, as a player, to be very clear in your writing (aka, in what you tell us here, OOC, but also when you'll describe Victor's actions, choices and general narrative.. I need to have it clearly stated, so I can have the environment react properly to Victor's behavior and actions.
His words are also generally clear ; he has no speaking issues at all ; yes, he's a little odd (*cough-like all Ventrue-cough*), but most of the time, his particular "problem" is only visible after a long exposure... Gosuin and the other Primogen can work with him without having to brain fuck themselves Smile

Going longer is perfectly fine with me, as long as you don't give me three pages just to make me understand that the character sits with his legs crossed.

Whatever happened to sitting in your lab, stirring the pot and realising you added too much sulfur and take cover under your desk?

but, but, but, Claudia. The preceding post was me speaking more plainly.see how I explained the poetry in the very next sentence? 20 feet of guts packed inside our little torsos. laying the guts out straight making them plain to see makes for a long distance.like a longer distance of simpler sentences.

may I use the format from the post which precedes this one to roleplay? If you need me to explain like I have done above, then I will be happy to do so in a PM as often as you would like.

Hold it there Dr. Seuss, all you have to do is say:

Person A stepped to the front door

, and not:

Person a made a gracious move as he made the move, in which he moveth with righteous purpose to a location we shall from now on knowth as the door of the front of the house, in which we enter from outside to within, or from our insides of houses to the outsides of nature. Fo shizzle.

mah nizzle...

Or be as flowery in your speech as you want, but explain what your character meant in a spoiler to the ST... and maybe a spoiler to the other players, because not everybody will get your meaning.

I remember one post you made when you were playing before, which spoke a little disparagingly of Raekel, the red-haired Toreador who was presented that first night (in addition to Duncan and Miriel).  I'm not going to dig out your post, but you referred to Raekel as 'he', along with a few other remarks.  I PM'd you and asked if you meant that the character was a bit weird, or whether you were joking that the male player didn't know how to role-play a woman.  You told me it was a little of both.  With a spoiler labeled "Wits+Empathy=5" or some such, you could have made it clear to anyone with sufficient brains that Victor was slamming Raekel.  This is exactly the kind of thing elder Kindred would do, and also makes it clear for the Storyteller.  I think this is kind of what Claudia wants.

PS @ Bloodywolf: Snoop Lion would be proud how you handled the bizzle.  Smile

Ha ha ha ha! Bloodywolf cracks me up! Whaddayah say to Duncan's spoiler idea, Claudia? I'm more than willing to have the spoilers be free of stats, be free for everyone. if there was ever a time when a spoiler needed stats, then I would leave it to your judgement. I trust you and I will support you 100 percent.

There were also missing body gestures ; frowning, smiling, squinting, staring, raising eyebrows, hasted tone, looking around, speaking with cynism, raising the tone, speaking very low...  You know, simple gestures and hints that can sometimes be faked to show a certain mood. This is indispensable for me because it shows me how the character is behaving, and hence, how I can answer to it with the NPCs or the situation
Remember this is a written media, so we have to be as precise as possible to show the mood. We're not in your head, you may think about a tone, a pause, a dramatic word, underlining a certain word, showing it's a rhetorical question, but once written, one can't guess it. Especially non english speakers.

Why the intestine reference ? Was it useful ? Was it necessary ? No it wasn't. It's a nice image, but we're not prosing here, we're talking/communicating in a simple, basic way.
Don't be so mystical. Just go to the point. Why not say simply "well, I'll need to explain more, so it'll make my posts longer, is this a problem ?" ?

Using the gender of the player was a "don't", by the way, I mean, it had nothing to do with what was happening in game. It's like telling someone "long time no see" in game when they saw each other two nights ago (even if for us, players, it was like 2 years ago, the characters did not feel this "time gap".. exactly like when I take back a character to be portrayed, and then the player comes back ; the characters don"'t see the difference ! so no need to act differently around them)

Think Therese, for christ sake :-(

Duncan summed it quite well for me though Smile

The spoilets themselves would need to be clarified quite well, can you do this ?

(don't worry about the numbers and the stats themùselves, i'll take that in charge Smile
