The game is out of beta :-p

So, on the matter of whether or not CCP is going to hold the IP forever or not...

They said it's valuable. They're also saying that they'll be making a decision in the next 6 months or so regarding it. Official forum discussion by CCP here.

So nobody really knows. I personally wouldn't be too surprised if CCP held the IP and let themselves just get paid to license it out, especially due to the recent successes with Onyx Path.

Well, maybe there is a chance to get a kickstarter Bloodlines 2 from CCP as they don't use the license right now.

It sure would be nice if SOMEONE did SOMETHING with it. WoD is such a creative and ingenius universe and much care went into creating it. I hate to see it sit in a box in someone's dusty attic for no reason. Only reason why Bloodlines 2 Kickstarter can't happen is because of the license being held down. Imagine the new Unreal 4 engine fueling Bloodlines 2. The graphics, the action, the versatility for an open world Vampire game would be limitless.

Everything has a price. While CCP owns the license, a hefty sum could change their mind, as they have the license sitting around not beeing monitarized whatsoever. I wouldn't see why they wouldn't want to earn some extra free money out of it. Its all a question of terms as long as the community modders (you, childe, bürger, etc) are able to work on the project. You are passionate about that project and there is nothing better than a passionate person to complete such a job as vtm:bl 2.

That's quite a big load to be throwing around other people's shoulders, kyoden. In both money and time investment.


I'm still waiting for someone to make the damn game and change names a bit not to get in legal troubles. I've heard there was some random dude that asked the Warner Bros. the license to make an Harry Potter MMO, they said yes, but after a while they reversed their choices. The creator is going on ahead to make an "it's totally not Harry Potter!" MMO.

Ok, let's take a different point of view.
CCP canceling WoDo is the best thing that could have happened. We want the game, and they were never going to release it. Now, something will happen We just need to believe. I need you to think positively. No "nots", only "yes's". We will get our game. I will play an outdated knight. We will play online.

I hope he cleared that with Warner Bros. first.

It doesn't really matter whether he's right or wrong. If Warner Bros. decides it's worth the money to take him to court, he'll be bankrupt long before a judge ever issues a decision.

And as much as I'd love to see Bloodlines with Unreal 4 (I got my subscription) - it's far from something a few modders can do. You need a full team to handle the entire production pipeline, with experienced project managers over them to hold their feet to the fire and tell them when to "freeze" the design and "No, you're not allowed to work on fixing that bug, anymore."

Without those things, it's just something to big to ever happen.
